Ward maintains his position solely due to the quality of opposition he's faced and defeated, as well as how he defeated them. Bradley lacks defensive skills and always takes a punishment every time he fights. To me, he isn't even #3 quality.
Ward has fought twice in the last two years, a weight drained (and never great anyway) Dawson and a never was in Rodriguez. Recent wins are what matters and Wards recent activity is bad. His resumé is good but you're talking about 2-5 years ago now. If Ward wants to maintain his p4p #2 spot he's going to have to do more than fight the Rodriguez's of this world once a year.
I agree with this you can't keep a guy highly rated in the division/P4P based off what they did 3+ years ago when they currently aren't doing nothing, Ward has what two fights since 11' one guy wasn't even ranked, his claim to #2 is dwindling Pacquiao is another one one legit win in almost three years yet people have him in the top 5. Meanwhile the Bradley, Garcias, ect are taking on tough fights but they shouldn't be ranked in people's opinion.
If Floyd continues to fight the likes of Maidana, Guerrero and Ortiz while ducking the real challenges e.g. Pacquiao, Bradley, Lara or Thurman I think it's about time we give one of the guys that are REALLY willing to fight the best the nod. I can't bring myself to putting a coward that shits on his fans and his own legacy on the top spot much longer. Andre Ward has cleaned out a whole division, Timothy Bradley is willing to fight EVERYBODY and always comes out on top, Wladimir Klitschko has been as or even more dominant than Mayweather over the last decade. If Floyds next opponent is not one of the following: - Pacquiao - Bradley - Lara - Thurman I think it's about time the boxing universe crowns a new, a deserving p4p-No.1. You can't live on past achievements forever, if Bradley beats Pacquiao (even if the judges rob him) he's gonna be my new p4p-No.1, that's for sure.
P4P should be based solely on skills and quality of opposition. It has nothing to do with activity or even winning. If it were, then Froch or Arce would be #2.
Well I can't accurately judge the skills of Floyd if he keeps fighting tomato cans that I would favour Paulie Malignaggi over, you feel me? If p4p is solely based on skills Floyd wouldn't be the no.1 either, it would be Rigondeaux or Golovkin. Quality of opposition? Alvarez was legit, although it would have been more legit without the cw-bs, but Ortiz, Guerrero and most of all Maidana are an embarrassment and not "quality opposition". If Floyd doesn't step up his opposition soon I see no argument for keeping him in the top spot while other guys are fighting their asses off just to get some recognition, sorry.
