There have been a million threads on the split, I just want to know how you guys see it ending. The facts: HBO has long been the premier boxing network in America. A decent Saturday night fight attracts about 1 million viewers. At $15 per month per subscriber, that translates into $180 million per year from people who watch boxing on HBO. They are currently free to fill that programming from a variety of promoters, but not Golden Boy. Golden Boy Promotions is the premier promoter in many of the most popular weight classes. They have a star studded roster and are capable of putting on card after quality card. However, they only have one premium network willing to buy their programming. Which Happens First 1. HBO will run out of quality fight cards and reach out to Golden Boy. 2. Golden Boy will want more money for a fight than Showtime is willing to pay and reaches out to HBO. This is a high stake game of chicken. Millions of dollars are on the line. Unfortunately, we the fans are in the middle.
Nothing. GBP's scouts are great, and other promoters seem willing to work with them. HBO will also always have leverage. We just won't get GBP/TR co-promotions.
I've said this a million times HBO only had 3 Golden Boy Shows planned this year and two of those involved Broner, who Showtime will want. Cunningham-Adamek did 4 million viewers, CBS can problably pick up 2 fights, maybe try to get 1 big show on Fox Sports 1. Of course if they make Canelo a pay per view guy they can stack his shows to make us buy them and we win
