It's downright stupid to favor any MW over Jake by KO. Out-pointing him is another story. There are a fair few I'd pick to do that, though none of them without realizing they'd been in a fight. As TheGreatA said, he was hardly unbeatable.
I haven't heard anybody "favor" anybody to KO Jake, and we know Jake could be outpointed. But are you saying you can't conceive of any MW before, during, or in the forty some years since even have a long shot to knock Jake out? I like Jake, I am a fan. I am in awe of his toughness and that ****in' chin. But what? He's inhuman now? Hey Jake? If you're listening, you hear what this friggin' Sweet Pea said about you?
I don't think Jake fought massive punchers at 160. Make all the excuses you want but SRR stopped him as soon as he weighed in at 155, all the other times he was an undersized WW-LMW. A 155-160lb SRR stops any version of Lamotta for my money. Lamotta was stopped at LHW too by a couple of none greats who aren't upto the offense force of the histories best MWs Would he even have gone the distance against the top MWs he didnt face like Charles? Moore? Burley? What about bangers like GMAN? Carter? Benn? Jones? Hearns? Barkley? Julian Jackson? Accurate intelligent pressure from Hagler? Monzon? Greb? Toney? McCallum?
A few could of outboxed him, but no one is flattening him in a fair fight. Yes, you get the odd quirky result in boxing, but that all that means is in theory anyone could flatten anyone else, at any given time. And it is unlikely to be the obvious (Nunn/Kalambay being an example at the weight). I have not seen or heard of any man weighing 160 or under, who could flatten LaMotta in a straight boxing fight.
So Jake Lamotta is god now? Every boxer can be knocked out. You people never cease to amaze me. As somebody stated the best puncher Lamotta faced was Ray Robinson a welterweight and the highly overrated Bob Satterfield. Most of the guys Lamotta faced were other mob controlled fighters. If he would of faced big punchers like the G-Man, Nigel Benn, Kelly Pavlik, ect ect ect he would of been stopped You know just because a boxer boxed in the 50s dont mean they are great you know? You people sure love to praise trash dont you? Lamotta a pedophile who beat women, to Mike Tyson a cowardly ****** who beat women.
I enjoy a sport, where the ultimate aim is relieve his opponent of his senses, so yes, I praise other people's trash... Plenty of our heroes were anything but, outside of it, and not just in the 50s. The 50s and 80s were the generally considered golden eras of the sport, thus they are by default going to get most of the praise, on a Classic Boxing Forum.
Tell me about the guys, boxers or not that you praise, and then tell me what you know for a fact about them as men. You may think you know but chances are you're only seeing what they present to the public. I think I can speak for others here besides myself when I say that when I praise LaMotta or Tyson as fighters, it has nothing to do with my opinion of them as men.
