Who came the closest to actually knocking down Hagler?

I obviously do not buy into the fact that Hagler was officially floored once in his career by Juan Roldan, so who came the closest to flooring the "Marvelous One". I can think of plenty of fights were Hagler absorbed plenty of great shots (Cyclone Hart, Antuofermo I, Duran, Hearns, Mugabi, Leonard, and Roldan too), but non where Hagler was even remotely stunned. Who came the closest to putting Marvin on the canvas? Could any middleweight have accomplished it? I think that if anyone had ever legitimately floored Hagler it would be in the case that he continued fighting into the early 90s and was floored and thus signaled the end of his career.

Mugabi. I thought he seriously stunned Hagler a few times in their bout.

Seems reasonable. Was their a particular round you think that he clearly had Hagler in trouble. I remember that being such a great, brutal fight. There was so much action, I wouldn't even know what round what ur talking about (other than 6).

I am. If Hagler doesnt thumb him out. Roldan was landing HARD and cleaning the ring w/ Hagler until the thumb.

Hearns momentarily stunned him in the first

Hearns hurt him worse than Mugabi did.

    I haven't watched Hagler-Mugabi in a good 15 years, but I don't recall Marv ever being hurt.

I cannot find this moment when Hearns badly stunned Hagler .. obviously very early but I see Marvin covering up for a sec but never nearly buckled ..

I agree. That was the two Al's (Michaels and Bernstein) frothing at the mouth. Michaels claimed repeatedly that Hagler was close to being knocked out in the first which is just ridiculous. His momentum was stopped for a couple seconds. That was it.

Unfortunately I can't remember which rounds. I rewatched the fight a couple weeks ago. Hagler definitely felt his power which is why he didn't go to WAR early like he did against Hearns.

You may be right since he didn't respect Hearns' power. There'a a reason he didn't do the same strategy with Mugabi. Mugabi made Hagler reset a few times when he felt his power.

Hearns may not have hurt Hagler overly badly or anything but it is notable in that there's nothing else that matches it on film unless someone has something better???? He was certainly "shaken" if not ever in big danger. It's also safe to say Hearns never landed his Sunday best as he did on the likes of Duran. When did we ever see Hearns putting people away with a right uppercut? The slashing right cross was his signature not the actual punch that made Hagler take pause.

Monroe by all accounts dished out a sizable beating. I've seen claims he was hurt a couple of times but unfortunately there is no film.

I've also seen it claimed Wigfall hurt him a couple of times in their first bout. I read he was stunned from the center of the ring to the ropes which would be something to see. Of course this is pre-pubescent Hagler. Wigfall had been boxing a lot longer than him (amateur star i think) i believe and of course famously dropped him in a street fight before Hagler rolled under a car. This i believe is what propelled Hagler into boxing. Hagler got his revenge in the ring. From memory Wigfall was jailed for murder later on.

Fight reports claim Hagler was "shaken" twice in the first Finnegan fight. How truly bad (or not) we will never know. Finnegan was a damn good fighter with weak skin.

Ya, it doesn't much matter. Mugabi was probably his toughest opponent. Afterall, he was his biggest, by far. That fight was sad to me in a way. Mugabi had been an exciting fighter up to that point and had proved he could win a war (with James Green) and was slugging on even terms with the middleweight master slugger for 10 rounds, and after that he had nothing left. Mugabi left the fight with his heart in Hagler's hands.
