And Mijares is a complete fighter? In the power department alone, among all the names we mentioned in this thread, probably it is only Kirilov that he has the edge and Kirilov KDed Munoz while Mijares was throwing everything on the mismatched Munoz but he was never KDed (which gives us an idea of mijares power). If Mijares is not landing anything, then understandly, there would be no KDs. However, he is landing one flush shot after another. Complete fighters have both power and speed. He has speed and finesse but not power. That makes him an incomplete fighter.
Power is the only thing he lacks, as I already mentioned. Stylistically he has it all, though he isn't textbook he shows fantastic technical skills. Donaire shows very good technical skills, but not as wide a variety as Mijares, though he obviously holds the power edge.
Results, results, results. Does Donaire need to fight like Mijares in order to win? Because he is winning with what he has. I do not really care how technical a fighter is as long as he is winning Like Margarito. Have you seen anybody outbox Donaire? Donaire does not fight close quarters for technical fighters to exploit because he darts in and out to throw his punch. He does not have a side to side movement (which allows you to be close to an opponent while dodging punches hopefully) but small skips forward and backward (which is good for maintaining distance and beyond punch reach similar to Pac in his early years although pac has way bigger steps ). And opponents has to respect that distance because he throws wicked power punch with both hands. That is also why he can fight with his hands down. There is no need for the side to side movement which is the style of mijares who needs this style to outpoint his opponents. That is just styles and style makes fight.
And styles, as I've already explained, favor Mijares in this bout. You broke down Donaire's skills, which I already have a firm grasp of, instead of attempting to break down this matchup.
Since Munoz won his title in 02 he's went 11-3(6 Ko's). He stopped Celes Kobayashito win the title and in his first defence he stopped Eiji Kojima who was only 6-0 at the time in the 2nd round. Next fight he decisioned Hidenobu Honda then rematched Eiji Kojima who was then 9-1 and stopped him in the 10th round. Kojima's record as of 2005 is 12-3. He then loses a wide decision to Martin Castillo. In his next fight he fights 12-8-1 journeymen and stops him in the 2nd. Then he takes on Julio Ler in a title eliminator and wins a 12 round decision. Next fight against a 4-0 novice and KO's him in 1. Loses another decision to Martin Castillo this one was closer tho. Next fight is a tune up against a 0-11 pro loser and KO's him in 5. He then wins his title back with a 12 round decision over Nobuo Nashiro and defends the title twice with 2 decision wins over Kuniyuki Aizawa and Katsushige Kawashima. Darchinyan on the other hand is 9-1-1(8 KO's) since winning his title and the only win that he has that isn't a KO should have been when Glenn Donaire quit after his chin was broken but it was declared a TD. Darchinyan stopped long time IBF champion Irene Pacheco to win the title in 04 and defended it 6 times 5 by KO against guys like Diosdado Gabi, Luis Maldonado and Victor Burgos. His draw with Gorres he was shafted in the Philippines and robbed of a few KD's. And just this Saturday he destroyed Dimitri Kirilov in 5 rounds for the IBF title in his second weight class.
I disagree 100%. I think Mijares layed back style will be the end of his in this one. Donaire with jump in on his and land a right or left and jump back out before Mijares has a chance to counter. Mijares will have to be a little agressive to win this fight IMO and I'm not sure if he can do that or if he will want to after he fells Donaire's power. That's just my opinion tho.
If Mijares can close that distance or gap which is Donaire's style without eating leather then Mijares can win. But Donaire is a counterpuncher about 60 per cent of the time so it is least likely that he will impose his style on Donaire especially if Mijares is having success early on because Doanire would then become a pure counterpuncher. However, if Mijares' power would not dent Donaire, then Donaire might be willing to gamble fighting close quarters just to land his very short powerful left crosss (this punch is special because is is so short yet wickedly powerful and being thrown at such a short distance makes it so hard to defend). Donaire is comfortable fighting from a distance and any fighter who would narrow that distance could win. However, because Donaire has power in both hands (this is a fighter who fights orthodox yet KOs his opponent with his left so the right hand must be something as well), the risk of eating heavy leather in trying to do so is there. Now I do not know if Mijares can do it because he has not faced someone who fights like Donaire. Arce is exactly not a hard target to find because he comes forward. IMO, Arce is the riskier fight for donaire because of his durability. He will come after you even if you throw everything on him. It is a style that would do good against Donaire, but not against Mijares.
Well I've already given my analysis so I won't be redundant. I don't think Mijares is layed back in a sense that it would hurt him, he's just calm and collected.
Well I think the outside game is what gives Mijares the edge over Donaire because he gives him a problem he hasn't dealt with before, which is a long, quick, sharp, accurate jab. And one that's dealt out often.
