Well you guys already saw it its ****ing amazing how this dude comes back from the pit of hellacious beatings and wins. Who do you think can beat this guy?
Edgar was amazing tonight, but I still think Ben Henderson will get the job done. As brilliant as Frankie is, he has his flaws and can be beaten. Still, it's a bit negative to focus on that after such a sensational win. What a performance!
Stylistically, the challenges that are up and coming could beat him, but with Frankie's heart, determination and recovery, you really can't afford to count him out. With a guy like that, he defies the odds, he beat BJ Penn twice when people didn't believe he had a shot, and then he retained against Maynard twice in yet another fight where most people thought Maynard had his number. Spectacular fighter, hopefully he will get his much deserved props now.
this guy reminds of rocky marciano he just refuses to lose i really like his movement in the octagon his head movement and accurate striking is ****ing brilliant, dammmn.
Four times I've went against Frankie and four times he's made a **** out of me. Bendo and Guida I feel would be hard fights for him in the UFC. Him vs Guida would require a **** load of motion sickness tablets though.
Right now , no one even though he seems vulnerable in spots hes hard to finish. And he knows how to win rounds which is everything. Anyone at 155 would have a problem with his movement. And please dont say Aldo
Not only that but Florians movement was giving Aldo problems. Then you can just imagine. Kenflo who is far from being a wrestler was able to time and take Jose down just think what Edgar or even Maynard or Hendo would do. The most disappointing facet for me of Aldos game is his BJJ. Supposedly hes a Nova Uniao star but damn, the last two fights he couldnt do **** on the ground top or bottom. How the hell is he going to get the respect of these wrestlers.
I really had high hopes because they hyped him out to be a Nova Uniao stud whos BJJ is even better than his striking. I was like damn this guy is the next step in MMA. His striking was supposed to be so good that he doesnt need to show his BJJ. Well hes shown it, he cant do anything on a mount. And to tell you the truth standing up, yes hes dynamic and explosive but hes certainly not elusive. Hes open to be countered. Guy like BJ at 155 would counter him to death.
What the Maynard fights have shown me is that you don't necessarily need to be a superior technician to Edgar to have real success against him. Henderson may not have the finishing poise of Anderson Silva, but I think his mix of size, power and (unlike Maynard) speed would see him capitalize on Edgar's comparatively dubious punch resistance at lightweight. I expect Henderson to crush Guida, so what with Guillard's horrendous flop tonight we will probably get to see Edgar vs Henderson early next year. Unless Gilbert Melendez gets the immediate title shot... Another very interesting proposition.
I don't understand what you guys ever saw in Guillard. The guy's been the same kind of fighter since the beginning. All body and no brain. He was never going to beat any sort of world class fighter with his kind of mentality. As for Aldo not being elusive, I completely disagree. He doesn't use boatloads of foot movement, but his head and upper-body movement have got to be some of the best in MMA. Yes, he's hittable, but aside from maybe Dominick Cruz who the hell isn't in MMA?
OK Guillard I was wrong, I though he just needed an attitude adjustment. As for Aldo being elusive, yes hes got head movement and yes everyone gets hit but he is not as elusive as Lyoto or Edgar, he just havent faced a guy that can give counter him but his road is not going to get easier since he'll be facing better guys than Hominick and Florian.
Edgar would most likely beat Aldo. But Edgar can be hurt. Once Aldo hurts him he's going to do a better job than Maynard at swarming Edgar and not giving him a chance to survive. I say if Edgar gets past the 2nd round he should cruise to a win over Aldo. But if he gets hurt in the early going, I see Aldo finishing him.
