No he's not ... he's fighting Jeff Lacy in an eliminator for the WBC strap ... the WBC strap is being fought for by Carl Froch and Jean Pascal.
Pavlik vs. Kessler is the fight I want to see the most. Pavlik vs. Calzaghe will be great in terms of a bigger money fight for Pavlik.
Taylor tried to outbox Pavlik and still won. That body shot in the championship rounds made him run out of gas.
I remember seeing Pavlik's first fight on ESPN and Teddy Atlas giving a great analysist on Pavlik's style and his flaws. He said that Pavlik steps back in straight lines and he often times leaves himself open for the right hand when he's pulling back. He doesn't use angles that well and he doesn't punches well to the body --
Plenty of time to fix those flaws in the gym. Not everyone has that running style to beat everyone like you know who. hehehe
Except Calzaghe and Kessler who he definitely can't beat, I should have specified. Bute/Froch could go either way :yep
He tried to box in the second fight but Kelly was the one who used his height and reach to outbox him. Taylor has the tools to box because like you said he has a good jab but it didnt work against Pavlik.
8yrs in the game ... he's doing the same things -- he's gotten stronger and filled out, but technically he's making the same mistakes.
His jab had worked against Pavlik the second time around, but most of the time with boxers who are dominate or who pressure fighters normal - can't handle a fighter who's willing to fight back.
If he is smart he will study the tape and fix his flaws. I think his trainer is smart enough to correct some. I know he cant be a perfect fighter but he can fix the obvious ones.
