IBF rankings are a complete joke. Furthermore, when Pavlik fought Zertuche it was a title elimnator, and zertuche was ranked #3 by the WBC. When Pavlik fought Zuniga he was also a top 10 guy. It was an NABF title fight, and if you know anything about the WBC, then you know how important that title is. (Joe Frazier and Ray Leonard are former NABF title holders.) That title virtually guarantees an eliminator. Zuniga's current ranking is at 168 which is much deeper than 160. And by the way, nothing will ever change the historical fact that Abraham ducked Zuniga in favor of a fight with Elvin Ayala. This myth that has grown up around Abraham is plain ridiculous. The man's resume reads like "who the **** is this guy" and "who the **** is that guy." If this Showtime tournament really happens, you'd best prepare yourself for deep disapointment. Arthur will not be fighting Sebastian Demers or Wayne Elcock.
Just because a man loses I am going to be dissapointed? Absolutely not. I am going to sound like a broken record, BUT, if Arthur comes in the ring the way he looked against Miranda 2, HE WILL GIVE ANY, and I do mean that, ANYONE at SMW a run for there money! QUOTE ME ON THAT, we shall see soon enough.
If Danny Jacobs develops into the fighter i think he will be, he will also beat Pavlik down the line. Hes too fast and has too much angles for Kelley IMO. Froch, Williams, Bute, Ward, Abraham and Kessler are the ones i would favor over him as of now.
It's a waste of time to argue with so many shitheads, but still. Abraham fought guys like Nader Hamden, Gardner, former champion Velazco and a TRAINED Howard Eastman fresh from a title fight with Bernard Hopkins (so much to "washed up", *******) all in his SECOND year as a pro, fighting for a title with less than 20 pro bouts. When Pavlik was still feasting on victims like 1-1-1 Lopez, all-red Bleakley and 4-2-0 Eric Olds. When Abraham fought for a title in barely his 3rd year as a pro, Pavlik fought "stellar opposition" like 5-3-1 Hernandez, 4-3-1 Madrid, 8-3-1 Avila, or 13 losses Gutierrez. When Abraham had some of his not so strong title defenses, Pavlik gave all he can against 66 losses Ivory (!!!). Congratulations to spin that into some hyperbole like "Pavlik HAD to fight more often <whine, whine> to get his title shot !". Abraham offered Sturm 3 times his best payday TWICE, and called out Pavlik on every chance, with Pavlik being quiet as Death Valley in return. Now be good nephews and highschool friends of Pavlik and bring more hyperbole and spin to the table, we expect nothing less of you jokers.
According to them, Pavlik KO2 God. The 0-12 Hopkins loss was a glitch in the matrix, that never happened.
I can do even better, those crackheads claim that Calzaghe ran from Pavlik because he was so afraid, while the man he slapped into submission and faking low blows to get a breather utterly outclassed and shut him out in the very next bout. But hey, Pavlik would murder Froch, make Abraham cry in the ring, beat Calzaghe into next Monday, totally and utterly destroy Kessler that his grandchildren feel it, and rule heavyweight for 20 years. The Klitschkos didn't call Pavlik for a good reason when looking for a Haye replacement !
Agree with all but Abraham. I'll admit I haven't seen alot of him but I don't think he has the movement to give Pavlik problems. He covers up wich would set up well for Pavlik to throw the 1-2 through his gloves.
In earnest, Pavlik is hard to gauge since he is slow, but lives off good timing. When that is dead on, he can beat anyone his weight, but when it isn't, someone like Hopkins can win every round. Even Zertuche landed many punches to his head and got a clear knockdown, with a hand that was flush on his chin, until he faded - and that was a crude slugger who wasn't quick. And those jokers rave about how Abraham was HIT by Oral, or that Sturm isn't "quick enough" ??? Sturm, Abraham, Froch, Kessler, Bute, Andrade can all win against him, but all but Kessler and probably Andrade can also lose - IF Pavlik comes strong and with a flawless gameplan. Kessler is just too dominant, I doubt Abraham would have a chance unless Kessler is getting old. But hey, of course, Pavlik will totally "dismantle" Kessler, because he was beaten by Calzaghe, and we all know how Calzaghe was running because he would never have a chance against THE Kelly Pavlik !!! When ZERTUCHE can land many hooks from the brawl and get a CLEAR knockdown with a hand FULL in on Pavliks face, Abraham for sure can land too. As if Abraham is just standing there covered up without throwing punches ever, or landing anything. In the end, we would need to see that fight to see what happens, but for that, Pavlik needs to come into the RING against Abraham, or anyone else from the list. Arum is not too keen on finding out, while the big list including Abraham has no problems with going into a tournament facing all of each others. Pavlik ? Expect him to fight Evander Holyfield at 168, Roy Jones at 160, or George Foreman. And lose 2 of 3 due to shingles and a broken hand.
Zertuche did not knock Pavlik down. Zertuche, former mexican olympian and WBC #3 at the time, got his ass handed to him for 7 rounds and then got brutally knocked out in the 8th. You don't seem to actually know what you're talking about. It's clear that you haven't followed Pavlik's career at all. If you had, you would know the difference between Zertuche and Zuniga. Zuniga scored a flash knock down in the 1st round, and then got pummelled into submission. At the time Zuniga was a top 10 contender with 1 loss, a loss at 154 to Daniel ****ing Santos! Zuniga had never been stopped, and after Pavlik he went on to win the IBO title at 168. He vacated that title and dropped back to 160 for a shot at Abraham. Sauerland screwed Zuniga and made a fight with Elvin Ayala. Pavlik/Zuniga was an NABF title fight. Now, I'm aware that you don't actually follow boxing, so let me explain the NABF title. Such men as Winky Wright, Joe Frazier, and Ray Leonard are former NABF title holders. It is a title sanctioned by the WBC, and it is part of the traditional path to a world title shot. In other words, Pavlik earned his title shot, in part, by beating a man Abraham ducked. The second reason I know you do not actually follow boxing is that the entire boxing world was lit up over a potential Pavlik/Calzaghe meeting. All this talk got started the day Kelly won the titles. Joe Calzaghe called Kelly out about 10 minutes after KP won, and then ran his mouth about fighting KP for 6 months. When KP absolutely demolished Joe's stable mate and sparring partner, Slapping Joe did a sudden U-Turn. This is one of the most thoroughly documented cases of ducking in boxing history. It is also the only case I know of where a guy ducked the very man he called out.
No-one is claiming Pavlik is a technically elite fighter, nor that he would beat the likes of Kessler, nor denying that B-Hop beat him from pillar to post. But to suggest that, despite the names and performances on his record, he's not capable of successfully mixing with the best at MW/SMW is just plain absurd. Stylistically speaking, AA and Froch aren't difficult fights for Pavlik, particularly the latter. There's also no reason to suggest that Bute would be beyond Pavlik's reach; he's beaten fast, technical, strong opponents before and he'll do it again. If you can't see that, you can **** right off.
Not with ease, but I can't se Pavilk or Abraham beating Froch at 168. Pavilk has poor form over 160 and it''s a big jump to face a big strong SM like Froch. I think Abraham is overrated and I very much doubt he will leave Germany for a big fight. He's just a better version of Ottke insofar as he will avoid the big, risky fights. I definately pick Pavilk to beat AA, but highly unlikely it'll ever happen.
