Yes, I know Liston wasn't in his prime but I think this
achievement is absolutely outstanding and not appreciated enough.

When Ali defeated Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964 at the age of just 22.

Nowadays the Heavyweight Division consists of old men who are in their late
30s and even 40s. We can't find anyone useful,
but maybe there's someone in the history of boxing who can do it?

I also give an honorable mention to Daniel Dubois, he was also only 23 years old against
Joe Joyce but in a non-title fight.

lets be fair, Liston was an OLD ass man in terms of combat sports by the time his first bout with Ali came around. Nonetheless, still an impressive feat by Ali.

Also the only other person who couldve possibly replicated that feat is Mike Tyson at 20, when he was grinding heavyweight wins he was a monster and i could definitely see him slipping a dynamic jab from Liston and hitting a nasty combo. Their height differences may change the outcome too because mike cant do much besides body shots, and with Liston having been beat from childhood he likely could eat a lot of shots. Id give mike the win 3/10 times.

Tyson of course. Tyson was very arguably the best 22 and under HW ever.

Not taking anything away from Ali, but I see several competitive twentysomething youngbloods beating an aging tired, faded, unmotivated 1964 Liston.

Kingston Foreman, FOTC Frazier, Joe Louis of Schmelling II, Holyfield, Tyson, maybe even Tokyo Douglas takes down the old tired bear.

A 22 year old Mike vs the Liston that Ali faced? It wouldn't have been a "phantom" punch that would have put Liston down.

FotC Frazier was 27. At 22, he was barely getting out of the second round with Bonavena. At 22, Holy was a light heavy with about two months' experience.

Foreman had beaten Chuvalo and might have been interesting. Don't know enough about Dempsey. Tyson would have had a good shout. He was much quicker and had enough power to give Sonny pause. By 1964, with his appetite for boxing dimming, Sonny might not have fancied taking what Mike dished out early on and fighting through.

Maybe, if he doesnt get into the golf and the high life. The Louis of the Max Baer fight was barely 21. He is not a bad choice at all.

Wtf? You saying 22 year old Tyson who was probably at the peak of his abilities at that age has only a 3 in 10 chance of beating the old as Jesus Liston who quit on his stool against Clay in 1963 an then in the rematch against the now renamed Ali, in the very first round, folded an collapsed to the canvas like he was shot by a sniper?

Man, you gotta be trolling here?

22 years old Louis beat Max Bear, Carnera, Levinsky and Uzcudun so I would pick him to beat Liston at that age.

Like the spring blossoms on the cherry tree, the blooming of Liston's status exaggerates to superhero before deflating to tomato can as the seasons change. I have watched this swing 4 or 5 times on this board and am forced to convince people he was a viable top 20 heavy at one point then walk them off the ledge as they want to make him Top 3.

The tides of nature are a beautiful thing to behold.
