This BOLONEY about MODERN athletes being better trained, better nutrition, better this and that is fake and untrue. As far as training goes, modern equipment has no real advantage over old school training. I mean you run a mile in shoes available in 1940, and see no difference in endurance than running in today's Nikes. Nutrition is actually, IMHO LESS than it was in the past. In the 40/50/60s, food was actually BETTER for you then this steroid and Antibiotic garbage companies are developing today. Sure, they are fortified with lots of Vitamins, ect., but these Vitamins are only targeting a certain ethnic group who are unable to manufacture certain Vitamins internally as other groups do. Take the Klits for example; Had they both been born in 1950, they would both be inches shorter than they are today. Why? Because they did not have easy access to all the steroids they had available today to enhance their growth. Add the fact that old school fighters fought up to 10 times per year, versus the maybe once per year for today's boxers, I find that today's boxers would be no match for older boxers such as Louis, Marciano, Liston, Ali, or Tyson. I'm not even going to mention someone like a Jack Johnson who would play with any of these modern boxers as a cat would a mouse.
Complete bollocks about the Klitschkos and steroids, they were about as tall as they're today when they were 17 years old. So length is something they always had, just go back and watch their amateur fights and tell me if you REALLY believe they're on gear, stupid.atsch
Yeah, the modern athletes in the HW division are far superior in every aspect of physical conditioning and boxing ability to those of the past, as evidenced by, er, their bulging beer bellies, and, er, that's it.
Vitali get a lot of points for consistency. As for talent and boxing ability, there are a lot of guys that I believe could beat him at their bests. But fighters rarely fight up to their potential. Holmes would beat Vitali, as quite easily in my opinion. In fact, I think the Holmes that lost to Tyson would probably beat him. Tyson would also be too much for him and Lewis of course. The only all time great of the past 25 year who would really struggle against Vitali is Holyfield. He was just too small. I also think there are a number of lesser fighters that could give him a tough night. The Ray Mercer that fought Lewis would give Vitali a very tough fight. Really, any top fight who had good steep and boxing skills could present a myriad of problems for Vitali.
There are more Haye threads than their are Klitschko brother threads and they've accomplished a heck of a lot more than Haye has.
Ah, so it's not that he's just too much physically then. Funny how you avoided saying that at first and started claiming that his physicality was the be-all-and-end-all. So break it down for me. What special skills does he have that make him "just too much" for HW ATGs?
THERE SHOULD BE NO HEAVYWEIGHT THREADS BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SITE FOR BOXING FANS AND WHAT MOST OF THOSE BUMS DO IS NOT BOXING!:yep
LOL, even today's babies get Steroids in their SIMULAC. In Russia it is even worst and human experimentation is common. You have probably drank a few gallons of Steroids and artificial Vitamins by the time you were 10 without even knowing it. :rofl
I think it is a legitimate debate. People are just rattling off names with little evidence or analysis to support their claims. No one can debate that the fight with Lewis was competitive, it was the last great heavyweight fight IMO between 2 massive champions. Larry Holmes would in no way stop vitali unless he cut him up. Holmes wasnt a big puncher and relied on a fast jab to win decisions against elite opposition. No ****ing way the holmes who fought Tyson beats prime Vitali. People are missing the fact that Vitali has lost VERY few rds as a pro. So winning a decision against him hasnt ever been accomplished.
I disagree with you about basketball. I think if you put the lakers of today in with the celtics or lakers of the 80s thy would get their asses handed to them over a 7 game series . . . back them they knew how to play ball! same as today's heavies they do not know how to box!
How I avoided saying what at first? Do you think size is everything? Primo didn't know how to fight tall nearly as good as Wlad, Vitali or Lennox, and that's one of the main reasons he was destroyed. Height and reach is nothing if you don't have the skills to make good use of your attributes, hell.. it can be to their detriment if they're unable to use it wisely. I dont see the likes of Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson and Joe Louis getting anywhere near behind Wladimir Klitschkos jab as it stands today. And if they were to get by, Wladimir would quite easily tie them up with the vast difference in physical strength, on top of it all Wladimir does not even need to move, a step or two is all he needs to control the ring entirely.
