to most british people calzaghe is fantastic.but americans seem to think he still havent proven himself. who would you have him fight to prove he is the best? and if he beat this person would you admit he is the best?
No one. He will never get the credit he deserves. If he fights and beats pavlik right now he will have beaten a smaller overhyped guy.
im british, and i know calzaghe is the man but because he's left it for so late to go america to fite, i think he'd need to fite superman to convince them. but then again who needs superman when we have a pavlik and dawson. I think beating these two will do it for even the harshest of critics
For me, beat two of the fighters below. G. Johnson, Tarver, Dawson, Pavlik. If he's willing to fight two of these guys and beat them, it would seal it for me. Right now, i still question his overall greatness.
Pavlik first ... that would be a key to ATG status. Then wait for someone at LHW who unify at least two belts (Dawson, Tarver, Erdei ...) ... which give a legitimate LHW title and crack at top #40 ATG. If he moves to CW and catch any belt over there it would be huge ... like top #20 ATG.
IMO the only way to shut up the doubters is to see him get crushed by Pavlik so they can say they were right all along... otherwise, no matter what Calzaghe does, the opponent always will be old, over-the-hill, overhyped, eurobum, too small, injured... it doesn't matter, it's probably part of the Calzaghe legacy...nobody doubts Mayorga's boxing skills because he doesn't have any. Nobody doubts Ruslan Chagaev's abilities because they couldn't care less... But we have hundreds of Calzaghe doubters just on this site, so it seems that Calzaghe is in fact very special because people otherwise wouldn't try to fight against their own sense of logic...
Since when does beating kelly pavlik make u an atg when 1 he's currently 2 weight classes below him and 2 he'only had 2 big wins himself ??? I think fighting either dawson or tarver and winning against any one of them would secure his atg status . Not Kelly " 2 big wins " Pavlik ! There would be no reason for him to goto cruiser .
Really, you sounds like Calzaghe is a legitimate LHW? Pavlik is fresh thats true but he is recognized champion at his weight. Ist not also about Pavlik ... its about Calzaghe who keeps winning with recognized competition ... Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, Pavlik are the key to open ATG gate. Tarver, Dawson gives higher rank at ATG list.
Pavlik ought to be no more a holy grail for Calzaghe than Hopkins. The only realistic fight out there right now that outdoes the Kessler win is Dawson.
