Who are there "people" that "drove his ass into the ground", first of all? Link up some evidence of overlap between people shitting on Dawson's last performance and the same people saying he is the bigger prize than Pavlik. Secondly, a close and controversial fight with Johnson, as I've said, doesn't make Dawson any less of a stylistic challenge to Joe Calzaghe. Why would it? That makes no sense.
Is he still interested in Wood? It made more sense years ago when they were talking. But now, it's pointless.
Well, we had a thread by some dumbass claiming Calzaghe is scared of Tarver, since he was interested in fighting Woods had he won that fight. He missed the whole point of course, that being it would have been a big fight in the UK. And no, all talks with Woods have ceased.
I am sold more on Calzaghe than I am on Pavlik for some reason. They are both great fighters, but P4P there is no doubt Calzaghe is better. His win over Kessler (who I rate very high) was just beautiful. He didnt look great against Hopkins, but then again, who does? Pavlik is growing on me with each fight, however. I would actually be pulling for him to beat Calzaghe.
IF Joe C tries to make a fight w/ Woods in the near future, people would not be out of line asking why not Tarver instead. THankfully that won;t happen. Calzaghe - Woods made sense like 4 years ago.
C'mon IB...don't be one of those posters who needs absolute PROOF for everything. Right after the Johnson - Dawson fight there were many saying bad things about Dawson and his 'lucky' win. Even you have to remember some of them.
I remember a wide array of responses, some more reasonable than others, as with any close fight. There were many who were surprised and impressed with Johnson's performance, some who were underwhelmed with Chad on that particular night, and, of course, yes, a few idiots who started in with the "exposed" and "overrated" bull****. Are those idiots the exact same people in this particular thread (or any other) saying that Dawson is the greater challenge and more creditable victory for Joe than Pavlik? Hmmmmmmm? Because that IS what pipe wrenched implied...that there was some underlying hypocrisy to naming Dawson as the bigger threat and more important dance partner. Implying that all those who think so were also the ones who'd shat on Dawson for the Johnson fight. Name me ONE poster who fits in both categories. One.
Dude.....it's rarely the EXACT same people who say everything. Pesting for proof on something that isn't that big a deal is a waste of time. But I am sorry for butting in.
Then why did PW even bring that up, if not to imply that there was some hypocritical overlap? How otherwise is the response of a few bad apples to the Dawson-Johnson fight AT ALL relevant to people picking Dawson as a more legit opponent than Pavlik? How?
I have no idea if Pipe is right or wrong on this, but let's face it, we all lump certain posters into certain groups in our minds.
