Of Mayweather's era and weight, Paul Williams would have had the best chance of defeating him when they were both fighting at 47.

Amir Khan can and indeed has already been beat on points!! He got beat off Lamont Peterson, remember?? It was a close fight, but nonetheless, Khan got beat on points!! So either Peterson is a top 3 p4p fighter or Khan simply is nowhere near as good as some think he is.

I love how Khan is often perceived as a genuine threat to HOF/ATG fighters!! He has fast hands, nothing more and the first time Amir's camp put him in with a genuine world class WW, he is getting beat!

Khan's straight-line, speed based style, is something Floyd could easily have mimicked in camp and whilst Khan would do okay for the first couple of rounds, Mayweather would beat Khan whenever (and in whichever manner) he chose.

ODLH, despite being well past prime, showed that sustained (but educated) pressure is the best way to beat FMJ (yes, I know, Floyd beat Oscar, but it was extremely close until Oscar's patented "Last two rounds of a championship fight gassing").

Unfortunately, there is no-one remotely near the class of ODLH or prime Mosley at WW or JMW (Margarito was a relentless pressure fighter with an iron chin. At his best Antonio may very well have gave Floyd all manner of problems too) so Floyd will probably retire undefeated (unless Thurman or Brook turn out to be a great deal better than they have shown thus far).

I guess you only watched a few rounds of the Khan-vs-Peterson fight Jim?? It was close, but Peterson won a decision that only Khan's most rabid fans would call a robbery.

And yes, Oscar boxed Floyd, but ODLH applied consistent, educated pressure (which he could not sustain for twelve rounds). No-one said that they have to put Mayweather on the ropes. Making Floyd fight for three minutes of each round will suffice.

Floyd's low punch output will allow any world class pressure fighter to win rounds (look at how competitive the Maidana fight was, simply because MM applied and sustained pressure and maintained a high work-rate, particularly in the first half of the fight).

I'm going to say Maidana will beat Floyd. The first fight was very close, I think both fighters trained to the max for the first fight. The only difference is that Floyd is on the decline where as Maidana should be able to maintain his current level or even improve slightly. Floyd of a few years ago would have dealt with Maidana without any issues.

    Based on what??

    His win over Collazo?

    Fun fact:

Amir Khan has not defeated a genuine world class fighter (who is anywhere near their prime) since he beat Maidana in 2010! That's almost four years ago!!

Kell Brook will hammer Khan if/when they fight (Amir has balls by the bucketful, but his camp are notoriously circumspect when it comes to selecting opponents for Amir, so Brook-vs-Khan may never happen) Pacquiao would KO Khan, Bradley will beat Khan comfortably, Thurman (limited or not) would knock Amir's head off, yet Khan will beat Mayweather??

    Not a chance!!

ok i get you about de la hoya i agree with that, just i think some guys force it with mayweather and it turns out worse for them

ah come on most people think khan won not just his fans i think he won four rounds with two points added for the pushing, there is no way you could give him seven rounds no way,

Having just re-watched the first fight, I can see where you're coming from.

I just feel that Mayweather took MM lightly, and got caught out over the first few rounds. From round seven, I have Floyd winning the fight comfortably.

Don't get me wrong, Floyd is clearly past prime and the decline is evident (you were bang on!! Mayweather of a few years ago would have Gatti'd Maidana). I just do not believe that Maidana will surprise Floyd like he did the first few rounds of their first fight.

My opinion is that whilst Maidana will have his moments, Floyd wins a clear UD (something to the order of 116-112/117-111).

You guys are either bunch of fanboys (Khan) or idiots. The only answer to this is Pacquiao. Pacquiao and Floyd are on a different level than everybody else.

Pacquiao can beat Mayweather Jr., Styles make fights, Pacquiao's relentless offense power and fast footwork like a Phillipino Sugar Ray Leonard would give Mayweather Jr. fits which is why Floyd has not fought him. Floyd Mayweather is a master boxer and knows Boxing inside and out that is why he realizes that Pacquiao is all wrong for him anyone with a modicum of boxing knowledge knows this is the case. Mayweather Jr. did not fight Margarito wisely because he must have known thru boxing circles that something underhanded was up with Tony (Loaded Handwraps) otherwise Mayweather would have beaten Margarito easily much the way Mosely did.

The two points deduction were crucial, I agree. But Jim, if a fighter loses points in a round for fouling, then fans of said fighter cannot complain if the fouler does not win the round!

If you foul and lose points as a result of fouling, and those points lost prove to be the difference between winning and losing, then the equation is simple. If you had not fouled you may very well have won, but you did foul, which cost you points and the fight. I do agree that it was a very close fight...but the poster stated that no-one beats Khan by decision, which is clearly not true and I simply reminded him of that.

You make an excellent point regarding fighters "Forcing the issue" which is why any pressure has to be both sustained and educated.

Well Jim, if we are not to consider Maidana as world class, when he was most recently a genuine world champion, then what level is he?

And since Maidana is clearly Khan's most impressive victory, if MM is not world class then when was the last time that Amir beat a genuine world class fighter??

The fight I would love to see is Khan-vs-Broner!! Khan fighting a poor man's Mayweather would be fun to watch!! Then we will see if Maidana has greatly improved, if Khan is ready to fight an elite WW (not sure if Broner is, but he is a step up from who Khan has been fighting) and if Broner is ever going to be elite at WW.
