Who can defeat Jon Jones?

Unless Mousasi drastically improves his takedown defense, that fight would not go well for him. If he could somehow keep it standing, he would probably light Jones up.

 

The only way to beat him is in the stand up, if Mousasi had TDD he would be perfect. But maybe Machida has a shot

 

The guys I see having a chance are Machida, Henderson, Rua, and Davis. The guy I see having a very good chance is Machida. I don't see Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson or Rashad Evans as having a good chance at all. Of course, if Bones moves up to heavyweight then there are guys I'd back to beat him. Cain and JDS are the first ones I can think of that I think would beat him.

 

As of right at this moment i could see Machida having the biggest chance of defeating him or Hendo if he wants to stay at lhw as he is fighting in 3 weight classes

 

Hendo has never been at his best on his back, and his chin is showing signs of wear and tear. I can see Jones replicating the Anderson fight. But there's always that right hand. But he'd have to get in the pocket to have any effect anaginst a guys with better speed, varitety of strikes, and decent power, not the best place to be as Shogun found out

Id pick Machida personally, but Im unsure if he has the power to dictate the range

 

Yeah he tends to get on wrestlers nervs but JJ has some decent reach knowledge that might give machida trouble.

At 205 in the UFC Machida is the only guy I'd give even half a chance.
Of the others, Phil Davis has looked good, but hes just another wrestler (granted a fast and athletic one), and Jones has shown us numerous times what he does to wreslters
Same as the above, I don't give a huge chance to the likes of Rashad or Rampage. Henderson might stay standing long enough to land a bomb, but he's got to get past Jones' freakishly long appendages first, which is no easy task.
Stylistically, Anderson v Jones could not be more one sided, but I'd still watch the fight with great interest if it ever happened.
The biggest problem with Jones is that by the time you get within striking range, you're well inside his effective take down range, as he demonstrated against Bader (by shooting in from the next suburb over and still landing the take down). If you try to clinch with he you're playing to his strength, as that's where his best take downs are. And if you end up underneath him, you're pretty much done.

Edit - Meant to say that you don't give an answer to the question you asked. You do in the beginning but then effectively cancel it out by pointing to the fact that even if he could maybe outstrike Jones then he'd be grapple ****ed.

The only guy I'd give a reasonable chance to win is Lyoto Machida. Jones is extremely unorthodox in many aspects. So is Machida and while being orthodox isn't the only reason, it's the way their styles match up and their backgrounds and how they apply those techniques.

Realistically though, there isn't anyone at 205 that I'd favor to beat Jones. Not even 3:1, probably not even 4:1.
