He was accused of ducking Lacey he takes the fight and schools him and gets no respect because Lacey was over rated. Then comes the next guy, Kessler, again Joeis supposed to be terrified surely he will lose this time but yet again Kessler is overhyped (clearly these guys were overhyped it's not that Joe is actually good). He takes the fights with Bernard and Jones and gets no respect there because they were past their prime. I can already imagine that if he were to fight and beat Dawson we would get more of the overhyped talk. I am 1000% sure that if he had been in the ring with Pavlik and schooled him he wouldnothavegotten 1/3 of the credit that Hopkins got.

The man is 36 years old it won't be long before he has to retire. In the meantime is there anyone that he can fight that will get him respect oris everyone just either too old or too inexperienced?

I think you nailed it. He will never get respect from a very small but loud group of haters -- for reasons that have nothing to do with his talent.

So these small minded detractors will put his fallen foes into one of the two groups you mentioned: Old and Overhyped.

i respect him highly even though he battered a shot roy but everyone knows that,

i think he should retire with his head held high
there is no one he needs to fight in my eyes

i would of been shouting ofr a pavlik fight
but our good friend bernard sorted that problem out LOL hehehee

He does get respect he's generally considered one of the top 3 PFP in the world. Every top fighter has detractors though and you can point out flaws ect in anyone. I don't think anyone would doubt he's been a great champion though.

Granted but Joe seems to have a greater amount of haters than most other top guys

Lacy- overated, but exposed his ass big style in great fashion, and put his foot on the world stage, also was undefeated

kessler- fantastic boxer, who is still improving, current ruller at supermiddle, was young top form, undefeated and dangerous. the wins sealed his dominance in division. great win

bernard- old, not as good fitness due to age, but as dangerous as they come and a master of the sweet science, who has changed his style as he has aged, fantastic win, even better now after the pavlik encounter

roy jones- old, shot but showed heart and kept coming, good win to retire on, beat up a shot fight in a dominant fashion to stamp his mark in hall of fame
but roy was shot to bits never theless

I think it has a lot to do with the fact Warren had him fighting Stiff's for years and people see him as a cherry picker as a result of this. His punches always seem a bit amatuer to me aswell they are never crisp or textbook, I guess that's what makes him so unorthodox though its not very nice to look at.

All boxing fans respects Calz.....if they don't then they're not "boxing fans" they're just fans of a select few boxers

Joe wont get universal respect til long after he has retired.

The only difference between the Calzaghe Lacy fight and the Calzaghe Dawson fight, is that there more people who wanted to see Calzaghe in with Lacy. With Dawson nobody is really that bothered, if it happnes great but if not...meh...

You can guarentee when Joe takes Chad to skool, Dawson will be dismissed out of sight. Joe should only continue if he has a specific aim, like 50-0 otherwise, beating Dawson doesnt really mean too much.

And there is always somebody else to fight, if not Dawson, then Froch, if not Froch then Taylor, if not Taylor then Johnson, of not Johnson then Bute, if not Bute than Abraham and so on...

If you wants to go for 50-0 then great, if not then RETIRE!

The opinions of some loons on here counts for nothing, history will judge Calzaghe very favourably.

    Right :good.

I can definately say he accomplishes what he sets out to do in the ring - even if I think he's a slapper and dislike his punching style.

BTW, who's the chick in your avvie?
