Firstly, I DO give him respect.

I think his next fight should be Dawson. Boxing is a constant cycle of champions and contenders, and the fans will always want to see the best potential fights out there.

A lot of people are saying "oh Dawson is a nobody", well if that's the case Calzaghe won't have trouble beating him. And if he loses, then you have a new man to beat and he won't be a nobody anymore. Remember that before the Lacy fight Calzaghe was unknown outside of the UK, and not even well known IN the UK.

fighting at 168 is like cruiserweight... never has and never will have any significance... plain and simple.. its unfortunate but its the truth

No they won't for either of them.

Lets take Mayweather as an example: already since he retired the haters have had to move from 'omg Mayweather should have fought Cotto' to 'omg Mayweather retired because he was scared of Margarito'.

Calzaghe haters who, only weeks ago, were claiming that he was ducking Pavlik, have now decided en masse that actually Chad Dawson is the great American hope.

Most fighters get looked on more kindly in retrospect than while still fighting precisely because this kind of ******ed crap goes away.

due to plain ignorance by a large number of boxing fans. the division is currently deeper than 160 and 175.

you'll be the one to miss out.

but hey, you keep moving those goalposts.

Many people in this forum see things only one way or the other. With no nuance.

"Joe gets 0 credit for fighting a washed up Jones."
"Kessler was an overhyped European product." (As is European is a derogatory adjective)
    "Lacy was overrated."
"Hopkins can't throw punches" (Making Pavlik's loss even more perplexing I suppose.

The tortured logic and bald-faced spin is getting more tenuous and convoluted. How much longer can you haters convince yourselves with this little exercise in group denial that Joe is no good? It's like a self help group, this ESB board: The power of ingnorance in numbers. If we all believe Joe is no good, then perhaps it will be so.

Be a boxing fan, not a hater. Be a man, not a douche. Give Joe credit. He's done more than most of us will ever dream of achieving.

He got a bit if respect from the Lacy fight and a lot from the Kessler one. He should have learned to make the fight people want. Who in there right mind wanted to see him fight a shot Jones.

but can u blame them... mayweather gets no real credit in at 147 because he didnt beat any legitimate welterweight champs except for baldomir which is till questionable... but i still think his resume is better then calzaghes cuz he beat the best at 140 and owned 135

hes done nothing for me.... so im gonna criticize till the end... i have my accomplishments he has his... but i will not give praise to someone that has taken away from the sport... to me he has disrespected the sport by the way he talks and raves about a legacy that is based on mediocre competion and washed up legends... the pavlik fight made hopkins look alot better then it should have but it really showed that pavlik is truly one dimensional... and stylistically was the worst matchup that could have been made but in no way did hopkins have the stamina to engage a world class fighter in calzaghe for a full 12 rounds... but it was still a close fight and a legitimate win... so 3 legitimate wins but still not enough to cement a great legacy or p4p in my book

i totally agree... either he can sail into the sunset and still be the ridicule of boxing analysts or he could take another fight with a fighter in their prime then go into the sunset with at least a fighter that was worth the fight... cuz the roy jones fight was not even a fight... ive seen senior citizens put up better fights then that

    ?????????

Calzaghe has been very well known in the uk since 1997 when he
1st won his wbo supermiddle title. Even more so as he won it fighting
the uk's most known boxer of the time, love him or hate him
    Chris Eubank
and with uk boxing fans well before that!

You have your opinion, but all it does is prove the point that some people will never find it in themselves to give credit where it's due. Takes a big man to do it, and we're not all big men.

    A) When has Calzaghe ever "raved" about his legacy? Right after the Jones fight, he refused to answer a question regarding his place in history, saying it's up to the press and fans to figure that out.

    B) Three legitamate wins? What does that mean? He's 46-0! Either you are suggesting he somehow cheated his way to victory in 43 fights or his competition was terribly subpar -- which is such an arrogant and ignorant statement it's beyond words.

    C) Calzaghe has taken away from boxing? How? He's taken away your heroes? He's taken your enthusiasm to see him defeated? What has he taken??

As much as I dislike the word, you are a true hater. You actually define the term.

I don't like Joe but he has my respect as a good fighter and a HOFer.

It seems though some of his fans want him to be respected as one of the GOAT. Sorry but I really can't find that respect for him, hes a great fighter but I don't think I'll ever see him as a greater fighter than Jones or Hopkins career wise.

If he wanted to establish that type of legacy he should of stepped up his level of competition earlier.

Its too late. Calzaghe is at the end of his career. All the top fighters that he couls have fought years ago are long gone. This guys needs to go back to Wales and enjoy his retirement. There is nothing more to prove, if he carries on he will get KO'd eventually. No one is unbeatable.
