    Here's what we know right now following Floyd Mayweather, Jr's victory over a shot, PED-less Shane Mosley:

    * Floyd sounds 100% prepared to duck Manny Pacquiao once again

    * Floyd seems to have little interest in facing Paul Williams

    * No reason to think that Floyd would fight Antonio Margarito now after he shamelessly ducked him in the past

    So, we're looking at 2 names or possibly some other wildcard entry:

    * Sergio Martinez

    Probably the front-runner. The kind of guy Floyd would typically seek out: 35+ years old, not incredibly skilled but brings value to the dance because of his win over Kelly Pavlik

    If the fight happens I would think it will be another 154 lbs affair as was PBF-ODLH.

    The fight can be marketed and is a Mayweather Cherrypick Special. However, given the dismal early numbers from the Shane Mosley contest and the unprecedented hype that went into that affair, serious consideration has to be given to how many PPV buys this contest could actually do.

    Martinez is a good-looking Argentinian fighter, but he's not exactly the second coming of Oscar De La Hoya. And, not sure how much Latino fans from the USA really care about him. The guess is "not much."

    * Andre Berto

    WBC Welterweight Champion who is from the United States and who has ties to Haiti. Would not be considered a legitimate threat to Mayweather and, though American, is not considered any kind of draw.

    Easy fight for Mayweather, but just don't know how sellable it is.

    * Someone Else: Magic Hatton, Vyacheslav Senchenko (WBA Welterweight Champion), Dejan Zavec (IBF Welterweight Champion), etc.

    Can't see any way that Mayweather fights either of the two European-background champs. No one cares.

    Hatton could be viable because of Mayweather's defeat over his brother, Matthew, and because of the Hattons' popularity in England.

    *
    *

    Martinez seems to have the inside track here, unless Mayweather decides he wants to take on tougher competition. Don't count on that, though -- that is not Mayweather's tendency.

    Given Floyd's choice of opponents, however, and his crowd-unfriendly style of fighting, the question is whether or not people will continue to shell-out their hard-earned cash to watch too-small or too-old opponents dance The Mayweather Waltz, with its slow and non-compelling pace.

    Based upon the disastrous early returns from Mayweather-Mosley, the answer could wind up being "No."

    If he can't fight Pacquiao, Martinez would be a fine match with some risk, as Martinez is a bigger and stronger southpaw with fast hands/good skills. Even Berto would be ok though he'd be on the low end of the totem pole for me. It just can't be someone like Matthew Hatton.

    no way in hell floyd goes near Pac, Williams, Margarito or Martinez. i think he'll play the apollo creed angle and handpick a no hoper./

    I know a ton about boxing, as well as promoting.

    The sand is running out in The Fraud's hourglass. It's going to be very interesting to see how Team Mayweather tries to negotiate this terrain as the Mosley bout blew up in their face and the public appears to be tiring of their same-old, studio-gangster, 24/7 bullsh*t.

    Maybe Floyd retires again, just to keep things fresh. Or does some more WWE, works on that crossover flair?

    • You hate on Mayweather
    • You hate on Dawson
    • You hate on Dirrell
    • You hate on Haye
    • You used to hate on Taylor
    • You made a thread asking should Taylor request that Andre Ward be tested for PED's
    Is this all just a big old coincidence or something much more sinister:think

    What if he fights and beats Martinez at 160... could Calzaghe vs Mayweather at 168 be THAT far-fetched? ;)

    Coincidence, seeing as how:

    * I love Tyson
    * I love Hopkins
    * I love Foreman
    * I love Holyfield
    * I love Hagler
    * I love Benn
    * I love Iran Barkley, John Mugabi, Azumah Nelson

    Etc, etc, etc.

    I hate -- DESPISE -- frauds. Haye's a fraud; Mayweather's a fraud.

    I'm tired of the "posing" bullsh*t backed up by cowardice.

    You want a Klitscho? Fight a Klitschko.

    You want to be better than Ali or Ray Robinson? Fight someone.

    The people who gobble up this junk make me ill. They're as bad as the frauds.
