He should fight anybody for free on show time and use that to promote a record breaking fight with canelo in may. I mean if it's free it don't matter who he fights.

That'd be a good idea without that 32m guarantee

Oh he'd be a fine opponent, but he was a PPV zero 1 fight back. He made some fans staying on his feet in his last fight, but that won't sell an extra 100k, and doesn't really help with his credibility as a Floyd opponent.

I think the only guys for sure are:
    Pacquiao
    Alvarez
    Marquez
    Cotto II

    Guys who maybe... probably would:
    Bradley
    D. Garcia

    He did 700k with Pacquiao.

Considering his drawing power increased slightly with that and then slightly again with the highly praised Provodnikov war, in addition to Floyd being a bigger draw than Pacquiao, I don't think it's outrageous to think Floyd/Bradley would hit 1 million buys.

Floyd/Ortiz, afterall, had 1.25 million buys and Ortiz doesn't bring much of a fanbase. He generated interest because of his dramatic ways, much like Bradley of the past year has been.

I dunno where you get your numbers from. Whatever it was, it was low for Pac and did nothing for Bradley's marketability. The judges decision was not his fault, but he also made a Pac fight uneventful. His effort vs Prov helped, but it's harder to take him serious as a Floyd challenger after that. Rios and Alvarado were both in back to back FOTYs, both mex-am, neither guy brings 100k buys. So you're overestimating the impact of his last fight.

And just like triangle theories fail in boxing, they may fail at the box office. Floyd being a bigger draw doesn't mean he'll outperform Pac each time. For example, his highly anticipated comeback vs JMM did worse than Pac 3 or 4, thought to be redundant. Plus Floyd is riding a downward trend and will have to combat buyer fatigue. The perception is he doesn't take competitive fights, and Tim spent a good portion of the fight out on his feet vs an FNF brawler. He could make it up vs JMM, but his best path to victory is to use his legs, not a good advert for a ppv on a mexican holiday.

In his next fight, it's pretty much Canelo or Martinez. He needs to dispel the public perception of "been there, seen that" that comes with picking an over matched opponent.

But, stars emerge in boxing from nowhere. Who knows who will capture the public's attention six months or two years from now?
