We all know that James Toney is one of the best defensive boxers of all time, he did have losses and did get dropped, but only as flash knockdowns and he never got hurt to my knowledge, but who do you think could’ve beaten him inside the distance? Because I know not many in history could
I don’t think Dempsey, Frazier or Marciano would stop Toney, they throw wide punches that Toney would see coming and block or move away from
Heard McClellan dropped him and hurt him a couple times in sparring so maybe him. Also any power punching heavyweight
Louis, Liston, Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, Klitschko bros I would also bet good money on Rocky to do it in a 15 round fight.
Joe Louis, George Foreman, Mike Tyson at HW. At MW I can see SRR managing to do it if he had 15 rounds. He'd soften the body for a late stoppage on the feet just as he did to Jake La Motta and Randy Turpin
30 year career without really ever being hurt bad is pretty impressive but he is human and definitely could get knocked out. A guy like Toney who was not only one of the best defensive fighters ever also had a granite chin. Too me, a guy like Joe Louis would be a rough matchup for him. Louis had exceptional timing and was a brilliant combination puncher. I could see him getting pretty much anyone out of there. I think people are looking at powerful guys like Foreman or Tyson but it's a puncher like Louis who could set a guy up that are much more dangerous for a guy like Toney.
The one against Reggie Johnson was no flash knockdown. He was legitimately stunned by that one. IIRC he couldn't do much more than cover up after he beat the count.
Never mind a heavy Julian Jackson could probably do it...but Toney was exceptional brilliant technically and just straight up tough.
He was too durable and defensively sound to get stopped by near any man. Even way past his prime. Maybe prime Tyson or Foreman or Lennox.
