In a P4P sense, i would pick a george foreman to beat him. Armstrong would be there to get hit and i dont think armstrong can ko him. People may luagh cuz armstrong is the more accomplished, but a swarmer is always asking himself to get knocked out if he tries to go inside a dangerous puncher.
In a pound for pound sense Jimmy wilde would decapitate George Foreman with a single punch. The bigger you are the worse you are pound for pound.
armstrong is a swarmer, not a devastatign hitter, hes there to be hit. Sluggers beat swarmers most of the time, im sure there are heavy hitters around armstrongs weight class.
Pavlik probably stops him, but I dont really count Armstrong's venture to middleweight as part of his major accomplishment. He won the world titles at 126, 135 and 147 within a short period and held them all for a while. That's remarkable, and only Floyd Mayweather would stand a good chance of stopping him achieving same thing in today's scene, imo.
If you scaled a 126 pound Armstronh up to 226 then he's probably at least 6'3 or 6'4 himself. He fought like Frazier but his body shape was entirely different, long slim legs etc., at 5'5 or so he was about average height for a featherweight. At heavyweight he's tall, rangy, fast, very powerful swarming fighter. He's basically something we haven't seen before, and he'd be scary has hell.
In pound for pound sense the small man is king. A dung beetle can lift 800 times its body weight while an elephant can only lift a quater of its body weight. If you drop a mouse down a mile deep mine shaft then it will bounce then walk away slightly shocked. If you drop a man down the same shaft then you know. Now if you could scale Henry Armstrong up to 220 lbs without taking into acount the laws of physics then he would hit twice as hard as Foreman and have a much higher workrate than Joe Frazier.
If Armstrong hit twice as hard as Foreman at 220lbs that means at 126lbs he hits harder than Foreman. 2*126=252 Your rationale is bull****. Armstrong wasnt even a puncher anyway
Armstrong is vastly overrated. He punched alot. That made up for alot of deficiencies. I give him his due for history's sake, but my list would be too long of fighters that would have their way with him, so I won't make the list. He was too small for most ATG's above 140, didn't crack hard, no defense, and most of all, he constantly smothered his own punches... How can he do anything when he smothers his punches like that? He could be outbanged and he could be outboxed easily.
While i see your point i really do think Armstrong made the most of his particular gifts to formulate a style that was supremely effective. Ease away from the welter and middleweight versions of Armstrong, he's at his best lower down. At Featherweight he had very decent power. Not many would outbrawl him there, that's for sure. His power, strength, chin and unbelievable stamina make him almost irresistible.
