Who could beat Henry Armstrong P4P?

Can you imagine him in against Arguello at feather? It would be almost unfair. True, he was stronger and much more credible at lower weights, most ATG's at 140 and lower would deal with him. I do give him credit and respect for inspiring other fighters and his inhuman workrate, and his accomplishments will never be matched, but he has too much against him head to head with other ATG's.

 

You don't think Pernell Whitaker or Sugar Ray Leonard could beat Henry Armstrong?

 

Question for you all: talking of ability, was Henry Armstrong in the same elite class as Willie Pep, Roberto Duran, Ray Robinson and Ezzard Charles?

Or was he a step below, residing alongside Jose Napoles, Marvin Hagler, Archie Moore and Barney Ross?

 

You pick Arguello over Armstrong at Featherweight? Alexis was far from his best at Feather. Ironically the one modern day fighter that used to get compared to Armstrong a lot for his frenetic attack and unbelievable stamina was Aaron Pryor.

 

On pure ability i see him below both tiers. His strength wasn't so much technical as physical and mental. His energy and aggressiveness was frightening.

 

Armstrong LB 4LB was one of the best, I think Pep,Duran,Benny Leonard were up there, Greb was a good LB 4 LB, SRR and Marciano was the greatest lb4lb Heavyweight for what its worth

 

Old Barney Ross was outboxing and outfighting Armstrong in early rounds. I'd take younger version of Ross to outpoint Armstrong from 135 to 147.

 

I did have Ross ahead after 5 rounds. But the pressue was too much for Ross and Armstrong overwhelm him. Armstrong was a great swarmer, he was not as define as a Pep or Benny Leonard in this regard. Even Ross has Armstrong beat in this regard. But the style Armstrong used, tend to eat up boxers.

 

Roberto duran at 135 takes armstrong,and p4p. (maybe henry was most comfortable at 135 anyway.)

 

20min 6sec film of that fight contains highlights of first 5 rounds, so it's probably possible to deside who's ahead after 5 rounds.

 

first 5 rounds are there in the 20 min highlight. I felt it show plenty of the fight to get a some what ideal on how the fight went on, Armstrong took over in the 7 or so round, and was beating Ross around the ring when he took over.

I think the highlights show 11 or 12 of the 15 rounds. Maybe less.
