160 Monzon, Hagler both 50/50 168 no one 175, Michael Spinks Bob Foster and Ezzard Charles all Favourite.
No one, a complete level above anyone who's ever boxed in these divisions. Hagler and Monzon wouldn't win a round between them. Robinson would be way too small and get knocked out. Charles and Moore are way too slow.
I've always felt that John Conteh had the boxing Ability, Punching Power before the Hand Troubles. and Malevolent Attitude to give Roy an awful lot of Trouble, John's 'Careless' Headwork may contribute to his successes, he was very quick to go from Boxing Mode to attack Mode, I must Stress this is the younger Emerging Conteh. Another 'Wild Card' A passing Through Lt Heavy Jimmy Ellis, he scored a number of quick ko's with that Sneak right hand plus his natural boxing ability, The Lt Heavy's certain felt his shots more that the Heavyweight Top Notchers he subsequently mixted with.
Saad Muhammad has a shot, especially if it was 15 rounds. He had an underrated body attack and would try to slow Roy down over the long haul. He punched as hard or harder than Roy at 175 and was more resilent. Roy's competition at 175 wasn't as good as the late 70s era of quality at LHW.
Funny that Jones fought the two best boxers of his generation (and some other candidates in Reggie Johnson and McCallum) among many others from middle to heavy... and no one came close to pulling the trick until he was an old man.
Reggie Johnson wasnt even close to the best boxer of his generation, McCallum was as ancient as it gets for a fighter and Hopkins was green. Why people always try to pretend that Hopkins was prime when they fought is laughable. If Hopkins was prime when they fought in their first fight then Jones was prime when Hopkins made him look stupid in their in their second. Hell Hopkins was older than Jones then.
Johnson was a fine middleweight, but pretty average and undersized at 175.He lost a lot of sharpness with the move up.
