We've seen the Berbick/Tyson/age thread now lets get lineal. Tyson was i think 21yrs 11 months and 28 days old. We will call it 22 on the dot.

What guys do you think could have beaten the version of Spinks that Tyson blew out up to the start of age 22 or less.

I'll start the ball rolling by saying i think Patterson could. Ali would be 1 month short of rolling Liston and i'd back him for sure. Now the thought process needs to get deeper - any others?

    Ali. Dokes.

Spinks was at the end of the line. But, Tyson was still impressive getting him out of there so quickly.

22 year old Ali would win an easy UD and 22 year old Dokes would win a close UD.

I know Dokes didn't have a title at that point in time, but I think he was developed enough and skilled enough to beat that version of Spinks.

They had the footspeed to take advantage of a Spinks who had lost some mobility.

I'd heavily favour the 21 y/o Foreman of the Chuvalo fight over that version of Michael Spinks.

Foreman probably could just on pure strength and agression.

Then again Tyson already had a good resumee by the time he faced Spinks so that added to his confidence and might have intimidated Spinks because Tyson was proven to not just be a young inexperienced bull that you could school.

Tyson was an exceptionally well seasoned pro for that age.

Even a freak like foreman might find himself taken into deep waters at that age because of the experience gap.

    Muhammad Ali I would favor.

Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson are the only ones to come to mind that could possibly beat the Spinks that fought Tyson.

I should add though, among the 3 I don't think any of them could win as convincingly as Tyson did; I would expect a far more respectable showing from Spinks regardless of the outcome.

George Foreman was pretty light on his feet at 21. He'd also shove and toss Spinks around fairly easily.

Here is George in his 24th pro win (against 22-1 Boone Kirkman) when George was about two months shy of his 22nd birthday.
