Who could eat a right hand from Shavers and not be downed?

The obvious answer is Jeffrey Dahmer.

 

I did not know that. Shavers had some strong hands and developed shoulder muscle. He also attributed his power to working in warehouses moving packages, along with the farmwork he did when younger lifting bales of hay, chopping wood, etc. Lifting weights on top of doing strenuous manual labor would make any athlete powerful.

All those rigorous, repetitive motions made his body like a powerful spring coiling up ready to unleash ungodly power. If only he had worked on his defense and ring IQ, guy would have been nearly unstoppable.

The main commentator is Tom Brookshier, and it was actually he and Ken Norton who commentated on Shavers vs Williams. I’ve watched too many fights - they’ve made me punchy. Lol.

I must say, I was impressed by how well Brookshier worked with Norton and Quarry respectively in calling fights. It also helped that it seems that both fighters knew Earnie well and seemed to have a genuine interest in his performances. Their input was very good imo.

Brookshier was an ex football player, possibly common knowledge but I only just found that out for myself.
