Now this isn’t my pick for the top, But as someone who isn’t a huge fan of heavyweight I have to give credit I have always admired how much dog was in Dempsey he always threw back hard no matter how rattled he was he was a risk to try and finish and never looked helpless he was dangerous every second of the round.
Ron Lyle, love him as much as I do, is a bit overrated in more camps than he is underrated, but this was one of his strongest points. In the fights with Foreman, Shavers, and Quarry there were many times when he was badly hurt and always threw back meaningful shots. Actually in the Foreman fight he turned the tide of round 4 (after both had been down) with a shot while Foreman had him badly hurt.
I think very few men fit this description though. Most either crumple and then there's the weirdos like Tommy Jackson, Paret, and Chacon who seem to enjoy it.
There’s quite a few but the first that came to my mind is Larry Holmes. Hurt him and look out. He became that much more aggressive. Still composed, the quality of his deliveries remained top shelf but with that much more venom behind them. There are many examples incl. throughout his to and fro fight v Norton, his late 11th Rd uppercut on Mike Weaver and of course his classic 9th rd return fire after being badly hurt by Tim Witherspoon. Those two literally punched each other to a standstill in that rd. Amazing stuff.
So true. Against higher tier opposition, Ronnie could be a bit too reserved for my liking but IF an opponent hit him just right (or wrong as the case might’ve been from the opponent’s POV) it could trigger a more primal, aggressive response than was usually displayed by Lyle. . Just as I see it anyway.
From what I've watched Morales Trinidad Marquez Barrera As much as I hate to say it - floyd. I always got excited when get got buzzed by a big shot, but he usually made a point to rally back. Looking at these answers makes me envious that I don't have more boxing knowledge. Kids and work really restrict my YouTube time
Joe Louis - hurting him usually means the end of the fight within seconds. Jack Dempsey and Ron Lyle are also great choices.
Also, from what we could gather from various reports - Fitzsimmons was deadly when hurt. We can also see it in Corbett's fight when Jim tried to knock Fitzsimmons out after he hurt him, but Bob came back with a few heavy shots to calm down Corbett.
Nigel Benn. As deadly as he was when he wasn't hurt, he was even deadlier when he was hurt! Watch what he did to Logan, G-Man etc. Warrior!
