Who could get up after that Shavers' right hand which knocked Holmes down?

Fury somewhat anticipated that. Shaver's caught Larry more flush.

Earnie hit harder than George, in fact ES was probably the greatest one-shot power puncher in heavy history.

I think post-FOTC Joe would get up but be far more out of it than he was in his first few times down with George. The ref would probably stop it sooner.

That said, FOTC and earlier Joe probably would have stopped Earnie within 7 at most.

I don't think Fury showed anywhere near the comeback majesty of Larry Holmes (granted, few heavyweights ever did).

No offense meant to anyone, but nothing Fury has done warrants serious comparison to the Easton Assassin, period. Neither have the other heavies of this hero (since Wlad, though I could be wrong on this).

    Just my opinion.

Take a closer look at the uppercut mentioned...I also particularly pointed out it wasn't as hard as Shavers.

But hey, if you still disagree, then we agree to disagree, no big deal. All respect.

By the way, if you want another example of near-Shavers's power check out the final right against González. Nobody alive in the heavy division at that point in time could have taken that shot and kept defending themselves properly.

Lots of people survived to win after getting knocked down by Shavers -- Holmes, Lyle, Mercado, Tillis. Bugner would have survived if he hadn't been stopped on cuts.

    Shavers was an overrated puncher.

Joshua would have got up from a Shavers knockdown. Or did Wlad not throw anything that hard either?

Nothing on film proves that. But don't let that stop you enjoying the Earnie Shavers GOAT puncher Kool Aid.

Everyone in the past because only they have good chins and no heavyweight in the present or future can ever eclipse them. Ever. Disagree? YDKSAB ALT HAHA

Uh, how many Shavers fights have you watched?

All respect, but maybe you should watch them again.

Well, Shavers didn't exactly have a great chin, for one.

    Thank you. I respect yours.

I don't pull my conclusions out of thin air, or just to sound contrary. Shavers is (IMO natch) one of the most overrated power punchers in HW history and no argument I've read has convinced me otherwise (I'm very open to be convinced).
