Hagler's extremely broad shoulders were why he had a longer reach than expected. Hearns didn't have as much of a reach advantage over Hagler as one would expect. If arm length was used instead of reach, Hearns would probably have had more of an advantage in that measurement.
If Hearns hit Hagler with the exact same missile that he hit Duran with, Hagler at least goes down, in my opinion. By "exact", I mean same timing, same landing area, same power and snap, same position that Duran was in, which I believe was slightly coming into the punch. That right hand was a freaking bomb.
True, but NOTHING on the thunderbolt that he hit Duran with! I mean that was LIGHTENING in SLOW MOTION!
I'll admit I got a bit of a cold chill when I saw that shot for the first time. As in, "I hope Duran can walk again". That punch may have dealt with Hagler ... hard to tell, though, because Marvin was just so tough. But it was better than anything Hearns landed on Hagler in their war. Hearns had torpedoes for fists :!:
Two Longshots, it's highly unlikely but if Marvin played into their hands.... the Bolt out of the Blue, type of ko, coming onto an unseen shot = Rodrigo Valdez (Ko'd / stopped Briscoe - Dropped Monon ) The war of Attrition ala first Antefermo fight, = **** Tiger ( He could keep the aggression going and was durable )
I agree. He wobbled ALI (even though he was shot), and he was a LOT lighter than Ali, too. Tommy had serious firepower! He could punch, man.
Maybe Superman?? Hearns buzzed him and Hearns hit like a light heavy on roids. Hagler was just one of those guys blessed with a 2 inch thick skull. Im goona defend the Marvelous One till i die. My favourite fighter of ALL time - BEAST. Just look at how Mugabi hit him, didnt flinch, but ****ed blood for days after. MACHINE!
I'd love to have seen a Golovkin / Hagler bout. Then we'd find out if GGG can handle a true top-of-the-shelf elite, and we could see how Hagler would deal with Golovkin's favourite liver punching. I don't think anybody stops Hagler to the head.
That was an amazing shot on Duran, but part of the perceived force is how Duran, like any normal mortal, was effected. I do not think the same exact blow floors Hagler. Wobbles, likely. Hagler had an unreal chin.
At MW? I'm going with NO! Hearns cut him and hurt him but didn't put him down and was later stopped by Hagler. Hagler was dropped once (vs. Juan Roldan) but it was pretty much a slip. Hagler went 62-3-2 (52) overall and a case can be made that he really never lost a fight and that he was never really knocked down. Benn, Jackson, and McClellan had plenty of power but I doubt they'd even drop him.
