I class Louis as a HW. I'm talking anyone I think would be a CW today, any of those I think he'd beat.
I think Jones clowns Tunney like he did other "good boxers." Tunney has nothing for Jones. Meanwhile, Jones can do literally everything Tunney can do better, faster, slicker. Tunney had problems with Greb's quickness, Jones would be much worse for him.
\Straight after the Ruiz fight or even the Jones that fought ruiz would have beated alot of good heavy's. I'd favour him over Adamez and Arreola in todays scene. In terms of greats, not sure, i think he'd of beaten Holyfield around the time they wanted that fight. But not a prime Holyfield.
The best P4P boxer in history would beat many champions and some ATGs, some would get to him, some would be too big
at the time, possibly rahman, 2003 version of holyfield, maybe byrd....but i think byrd isnt slow enough or dumb enough to get caught for the tricks he is big enough and strong enough to at last bully someone smaller than himself. lewis is way too big. tyson was out of prime but i think jones was a perfect fight to get mike back on track, golota is too big, k2 is too big, strong, long even though i think both could be made to look foolish agaisnt jones at points. corrie sanders could of either got jones out of there quick or be pot shotted but i think sanders wouldnt be fooled by the speed. brewster would of destroyed him samuel peter....logic is that peter is too big and happy to trade which jones might just walk into something...but peter was ****ing awful. could only be done to ruiz really. toney did the same.
Ruiz...that's it...can you imagine Marciano...Dempsey...Louis...against RJJ's chin?...yeah,.. ...me neither...
It's one of my dream parallel timelines that: Jones stays at HW, beats the corpse of Tyson and Holy then faces Byrd in a unification fight with Vitali/Lewis retiring and Wlad being constantly knocked out.
Agreed. I don't even think I'd favour him against some of the contenders and other top 10 heavyweights decade by decade. RJJr's best weight was at middle & light heavy. He's only got so many rounds before a heavyweight punch catches him and takes him out.
Agreed. I favour the middleweight/light heavyweight version of Jones with a little more speed having a better shot at winning. I'm still not favouring him though.
In all fairness he did easily beat John Ruiz who at the time was a legitimate top 5 heavy, and a belt holder.. Jones basically won every round of that fight and did so when he was 34 years old and past his prime. Therefore, I do feel that there are some good heavys that he might have beaten, especially if he had made the jump in weight earlier in his career. But again, there is a difference between good and great. Agreed, which is why my confidence in him against elite or very dangerous heavys is limited. There was discussion of him fighting Corrie Sanders around 2003, shortly after Sanders had beaten Wlad. Although Sanders was hardly elite, he was certainly dangerous, and placing Jones in the ring with him at that time would have been bad news.
the tyson of 03ish would be able to crush him. danny williams and mcbride where him getting outmuscled and his speed being the only thing to keep em off. jones would be caught hard on the inside. might land some good shots on the way in but mike i think would catch him enough to make him pay.
