there is risk for both fighters pavlik is the bigger name indeed but if pavlik wants to make a bigger draw he should take the short end of the stick if beats him he will be the men to beat at 160

that is exactly my point this will be a top rank promotion. not a co promotion. therefore tr takes 100% of the risk yet goosen feels that he should get a percentage of the profits.

I'm in the camp that says if this fight doesn't happen it is because Goosen doesn't really believe Paul is ready. I actually agree with that. The problem is that this has happened before for the same fight. Once more and no one is going to want to deal with Goosen if they see him as jerking Arum around on this. Paul Williams the most avoided man in boxing because Goosen is the most avoided PROMTER in boxing.

champion gets more. doesn't matter. the ONLY exception is if it's a de la hoya or a leonard. not saying that's fair but that's the way it goes. williams is no de la hoya or leonard. truth be told he's no pavlik in terms of the gate

    No, not always.

The main deterninant is the drawing power.

In Tyson's last fight, he got 98.7 % of the purse and McBride got 1.3 %.

I know Tyson was a name, but he was well past it by then.

Mosley got 50 % of the Mosley Marg purse, despite Marg being the champ.

Hopkins got 50 % against champion Tarver.

    And numerous other examples exist.

Pavlik is not a huge draw. His ppv numbers were awful against Taylor and Hopkins (around 200, 000 in one aqnd less in the other).

And that was before he suffered a one-sided execution at the hands of Hopkins.

Williams has a better resume than Pavlik and is the man at 154.

He has never suffered an embarrassing loss like Pavlik did, and has brutally avenged his only loss.

    50-50 is fair.

Pav's boys need to cash him in while he still has some draw left.

:admini did not know that about Mosley. that's kinda surprising

pavlik isn't a big ppv draw to be sure but he does put asses in the seat. The gate will be mostly pavlik.

I agree that the draw does affect the purse split but in this case neither is a major draw, so the old rule about a champion getting a 70-30 split could be considered though I honestly think 60-40 is fair

pav is the man to beat at 160 he def has the most to lose. if williams loses they will simply say he shouldnt have fought the bigger man no big deal but if pav loses, boy the critics will be ready to take pavs head off with comments like hopkins ruined him , he lost to a smaller man, all kinds of things. but im conf pav will get a late stoppage or ud

While I think 50-50 is fair, I can see a case for Pav getting a slightly higher share.

    50-55 %.

Pav's career is stalled, though and he needs to do something to get it moving (assuming he hasn't been ruined by Hops).

He has missed out on fighting AA, whatever the reason.

And he's been bypassed by the SMW tourney.

There aren't a lot of big names out there at 160.

Williams is the biggest name he can possibly get.

And the fight itself is a 50-50 proposition in terms of which one would be favoured.

Just let the fight get made.

Gossen needs to make this fight Williams needs these high profile bouts. Right now Pavlik deserves the bigger share he is the champ and has the fanbase.
This is just the type of fight that Williams needs to gain exposure and become a champ at 160. Gossen needs to make this fight happen ASAP.
