Holmes was not fighting anywhere near his full potential and could have stopped Ali properly if he really let go - Ali was in the worst condition he was ever in for a fight had been taking thyroid pills leading up to the fight..

Ali prepared more sensibly against Berbick and so performed better.

Doubt my knowledge by all means - but I am just giving an honest assessment as I see it from where I am standing.

Ali in the first spinks fight was arguably the worst prepared he'd ever been.

Yes holmes could have stepped up, he didn't want to. At that that point he was just clearly superior. Ali fought better against berbick in comparison because holmes is a lot better than berbick and never allowed ali to look good at any point.

In the overall scheme of things an overly amount of credit need not be given to either. Both showed some good traits getting by a still cagey Holmes but the man was a mere shell of his former self. Tysons power is notable given Holmes (durability) efforts post fight.

Except Holmes wasnt rotting in prison where he could do no boxing. He had fought a 15 round exhibition a few months before entering training, so factoring in all his time off, it was about the same time Floyd Mayweather takes off between fights. Tyson was out of boxing for about 4 years.

Holmes was pretty sharp his entire comeback. The answer should be Tyson's destruction of Holmes which never happened ever in Holmes career was the more spectacular performance. You cant judge who should get more credit. Holmes was older against Holyfield, but he was old against Tyson too.

Holmes didnt look at all rusty against Tyson, he merely got caught by a righthand that most fighters would have gotten caught with. It was a hell of a shot, and Tyson landed those type of shots on all fighter at that time in his career, thats why he was a dominant undefeated champion.

Judging credit is one of the main facets of boxing discussion!

Didn't know about that exhibition, who was it against.

Cant remember, but the commentators commented on how good he looked to which Holmes agreed. No version of Holmes would have had an easy time with Tyson, he was too fast.

Holmes was past it but Tyson was a young up comer. When ever you see a great fighter coming up it is the way he defeats the Champs and contenders and Tyson dominated the former champs. I think Tyson would have always KO'd Holmes, lets face it Larry fought no-one even close to Tyson, even the fighters Larry avoided as champ were no where are good as Tyson...Tyson was the best Holmes fought

I have a hard time believing any plausible fight between larry and tyson ends in anything other than tyson ko. Even in 86 i'd favour tyson.

The great thing is, if larry would never have fought tyson, people would be talking about how ridiculous the notion of larry ever getting ko'd would be.

Tyson. The only man to stop Holmes. Holyfield could only manage a workmanlike points victory. And this over an even more past it Holmes.

Neither. Holmes was far past his prime against Tyson and even further past it against Holyfield.

1978-1980 Holmes would beat both Tyson and Holyfield, perhaps by wide UD.
