Who deserves the most credit for their win over Roy Jones?

Im going to go against popular opinion and pick Joe out of those three.

The Roy that fought Joe was a few years older but i believe was in better shape and a better fighter than the Roy who fought Tarver and Johnson.

The rapid weight loss of muscle greatly effected Roy and this is the reason he got KO'ed by Tarver and Johnson. I trully believe if Roy never went up to heaveyweight and therefore never had to lose the weight or if he did go up to heaveyweight but took his time and lost the weight properly and then fought Tarver and Johnson then he would not have got KO'ed. Chris Byrd and Taver himself are two recent examples of the detrimental effects of rapid weight loss to a fighter.

Roy, whilst older now is still a better fighter than a few years back as his body is now used to being at 175 pounds.

 

Tarver set the blue print but no one has ever laid down a beating to jones the way Calzaghe did not even tarver in there rubber match

 

i defintly agree. a good example is how he isnt even in a poll on a thread called "Who deserver's the most credit for their win over Roy Jones" is a major sign of disregard.

people act like montell didnt beat jones that night. roy was missing with everything and montell just outboxed him and outworked him on the inside. used some great tricks and tactics. like the jab, cross, shoulder to roys left hand arm so he couldnt drop a left hook. by the end of it all montell had shut off jones's offence completly i remember roy's only option was moving back into a corner becuse he couldnt get anything on his man.

tarver won both of his fights over jones becuase of his one shot power and southpawness. if he didnt rock roy awfully in the later rounds with a lead right hook then you could say it was a justified draw.
the griffin-jones I fight just seemed like it was brushed under the carpet like a disqualification doesnt matter.

as soon as roy found an opening which was in the last round and DQ round it was clear roy wasnt gonna let him go. i agree that griffin could of got up. the ref said he was gonna take 2 points off of jones which would of meant that roys only chance was a knockout and from most of the fight roy got only one major chance and that was the incident that got him DQ.

but montell is/was a wiley fighter in his hayday and knew a win is a win as montell said after the fight "this was not the way i wanted to win"

you do know that roy went down in weight and won the 1st figth against tarver? if he was losing so much from wieght surely the first fight would be the major one.

 

Hard to say.

Tarver exposed Jones for having a glass jaw. As the first man to do it, he deserves credit.

Johnson did that and more....it was a dangerous looking KO where Jones was on the floor and out cold for some time.

Clazaghe beat Jones in a different way, using skills.

I think a case can be made for all three.

 

Yeah i watched it and Roy looked awful.

Sure thing. If someone challenges Jones in about 5 years from now and gives him a worse beating than Joe, the guy will deserve even more credit than Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe. It doesn't matter that Jones will be more than SHOT at the time. :roll:

 

Tarver and then Johnson. Calzaghe beat him years after they had both done so and didn't manage a KO.
