I enjoyed both fights for different reasons. Some suggest the Fury fight was dull or poor etc, I disagree. I was on edge all the way through. Let's remember, Fury was expected to be sparked out early on. That he wasn't, that within a couple of rounds he was already in control to the point where he had his hands behind his back was unbelievable to witness. But as a Fury fan, I was still nervous and wary of Wlad's power. But he wasn't given the opportunity to showcase it. Tyson did a real job on him, and when he did get hit (rare) he soaked it up. He also landed a hell of a lot more punches than people like to remember. Wlad looked a mess by the final bell, Tyson looked as handsome as ever... I felt it was a great fight and a huge accomplishment. He wasn't given the credit he warranted in my opinion. But since then he's not helped himself, as he admits. He still doesn't help himself. But that's part of the attraction. Boxing WITH Tyson Fury in it is much better for that. On Saturday night, AJ went to war with Wlad. It was always going to be that kind of fight. AJ is stiff, his movement is lacking, Wlad was always going to be the more fluid fighter. But AJ has immense power and an ability to throw in flurries without losing that power. It was only ever going to be brutal, full of scoring punches. Massive credit to Wlad for soaking it up early on and then having AJ clinging on for dear life. But he didn't show enough aggression at that point, because for me, Joshua was gone in the 6th. Wlad had an opportunity, he didn't take it. Joshua's tank re-filled and whilst I still had Wlad edging it on points, it was superb to see AJ blast him out of there in the 11th. So yes, I enjoyed both fights for different reasons. It doesn't have to be black or white. It can be shades of grey. And it is that which makes the potential JOSHUA vs FURY at Wembley fight the biggest in boxing. Fingers crossed we get to see it. I'm a Fury fan, have been since I saw him debut in Nottingham back in 2008. I knew he was special then. It's been some ride since. However, I see Joshua as his worst nightmare. Can Tyson dodge, dance and weave from AJ? Can he still work that jab, has he the power to hurt AJ? It's a hard fight to call. You don't have to love one and hate the other. Just respect what both offer to the sport. My first post. Hope it went down alright.
They could hardly have been more different fights. Like trying to compare an apple to an orange. Not sure anything can actually be gained from it.
I don't read too much into post fight excuses, Wlad is always %100 prepared. Of course It would've been different had the rematch happened with Fury's mental problems(which I don't really buy either, Fury just lost his hunger and couldn't be bothered to get in shape) because Fury wouldn't have been the same, not because Wlad could've gotten better at 40. Styles that make fights was the reason why Wlad looked better against AJ. Hell if anything, he had ring rust against Joshua, It took him 4 rounds to shake it off, find his rhythm and start controlling the range and have his jab going.
Fury nullified Wlad with skill, Joshua wore him down with raw aggression both equally as impressive for totally different ressons
I think I made some of the same points you just made, just worded differently. I also tend to think AJ looked better, not only because Wlad was better in that fight, but because Wlad hasn't been stopped since Corrie sanders did it, years and years ago which was highly impressive. Fury outboxed Wlad, but my God it wasn't impressive what so ever to me, and was one of the worst heavyweight fights I've ever seen.
Fury will exploit AJ's weaknesses i.e. gassing after a few combinations. Also unlike Wlad, Fury does not panic when hit in the face or against an onslaught, i do believe he has a very good set of whiskers and recovering abilities, his ring generalship is superior. Also if AJ is in trouble, i have solid confidence Fury will not let him off the hook.
Another thing people understimate in this match up is the mind games Fury will play on Joshua, the things he will say in the pre fight conferences and interviews, he is not going to be scared of AJ and will do whatever it takes to get inside his head and skin, that is surely going to be a factor in the actual fight.
AJ fought a superior Wlad. Superior Wlad was stopped. I'm waiting for Vitali to properly avenge his little bro.
Both used their strengths to get the win. You can't really compare as AJ couldn't do what Fury did and Fury couldn't do what AJ did as there both different fighters..
Difficult to compare, but I would say Fury's was better on the basis that he won in Germany, didn't get knocked down, tactically controlled the fight, Klit hadn't lost in 20 odd fights and fury fought him when Wlad was slightly younger. Aj had the advantage of home ground and was fighting Wlad after he hadn't fought for 18 months.
Who did better not really answerable as Fury and Joshua had different game plans, both achieved their goal, a win. Wlads performance in both bouts differed, he appeared unwilling to pull the trigger in the TF fight, but was against AJ. So whether WK not pulling the trigger against TF was down to TFs tactics or just WK having a bad day at the office i don't know, but feel if AJ had faced WK and WK was not pulling trigger then AJ would likely have KO'd him.
