To secure the fights with Ali and Frazier? Or was it all based on his reputation as a light-heavy?

And his willingness to fight anyone. How many other lh are fighting Muhammad Ali for no title? What kind of carrot was dangled, a potential rematch w/ Smokin Joe who had already scored a brutal ko over him?

How many other guys suffering a brutal ko like that to Frazier continue to defend their lh title succesfully after that result anyway?

Also a purse of $125,000 - more than he was accustomed to getting for defending his light heavyweight title.

Re Fosters fight with Ali, at the time Ali was on that active Roadshow Run, so it was quantity as well as quality, the torch paper was lite with the prior promotion of the Soul Brothers (Ali & B0b ) Vs the Quarry Bro's of course the Soul Bro's were impressive winners...If Bob kept undefeated in the interim his turn on the Ali Money-go-round would come. and indeed it did. but it did leave a mark on Bob, he wasnt separating Lt Heavy's from their senses of this.
