I did think it was interesting that he was calling out Pavlik all the time and then shut up all of a sudden. Not saying he ducked him but that one always got me... Especially since Joe would have owned him.

I'd say he didn't duck anyone. But he didn't go out of his way to make the big fights he was quite happy fighting in the UK and being a big fish in a small pond. Though you could argue that he should have fought Johnson as they did agree to fight a few times. Also Freeman Barr was his mandatory for a ridiculous amount of time and never got a shot, though that was clearly down to money, but I still don't see why he never fought him as he never got that big fight and ended up fighting less deserving opposition that hadn't earned mandatory position.

I was a big fan of his but his choice of opposition sometimes was diabolical. If you can't get the other title holders to fight you it doesn't excuse you for fighting such poor opposition as Pudwill, Ashira, Salem, Mkrtchyan and McIntyre. I feel he wasted his prime years and that's why I stopped watching him.

Pudwill's perfectly excusable in the circumstances. The others not so much.

can you really say he ducked johnson - he fought guys who had beat johnson - Glen Johnson was not a great SWM. To be fair he has now pull it together for a good run a LHW

You asked the question yet argue with the replies.

Calzaghe ducked Dawson and Froch like a greased up limbo dancer. Back in the present Slappy Joe is currently dodging his coke dealer for payments due.

everyone, don't buy that **** about what Warren said when he was his promoter, of course he would say that.

it's all smoke and mirrors, Calzaghe claimed to have fear of flying during his younger years, but then had no problem flying to beat up the corpses of RJJ and BHOP.

calzaghe still pulled out twice and both times it was calzaghe`s fault totally and not johnsons.

yes i beleive calzaghe would have beaten johnson , but that is a different point.

the could have /should have /would have arguement is not applicable in this case.

Up until Lacy he never fought another title holder. He fought Richie Woodhall AFTER he lost his title, he fought Robin Reid AFTER he lost his title, he fought Byron Mitchell AFTER he lost his title, he fought Charles Brewer AFTER he lost his title.

Never fought Otkke, wanted no part of RJJ or Hopkins no matter what the Calzaghe lover want to say now and act like Hopkins ducked him:patschPulled out of a Glen Johnson fight how many times???

Calzaghe's last two fights were at 175 where Dawson was the best fighter out there. And yes Dawson was willing to go to the UK or Wales or where ever to fight Calzaghe he made that very clear.

Oh and Calzaghe gained 7 pounds and came to the USA to fight Hopkins you idiot......

Some do. Most fans like me think Calzaghe was a bit of a prima dona. He expected legends to give him title shots even when he was a nobody and he didn't want ot leave the UK. That's not how it works. He was the young upstart. It was his job to make the fight happen. Dozen of legendary foreign champions like Duran have done exactly that when the toughest champs were America. They went to the States, made their names, and called up the best fighters. Calzaghe didn't want that. He just thought the fights would come to him...why I have no idea.

even though hopkins and jones did only mediocre numbers calzaghe still was well paid for fighting them in comparison to what he would have got to face dawson.

i agree with you dawson was and is the best light heavy.

trouble is for dawson he only has about 150 fans that actually pay to watch him fight and thats when he fights someone from home like tarver.

Quite funny people mentioning Dawson as he did exactly what people accuse Calzaghe of doing with regard to Jones - talking about it but doing absolutely nothing to actually try to secure the fight.

Calzaghe made it very clear that he would only take another fight after Jones if someone made him an offer he considered he couldn't refuse. Dawson made no offer at all.
