I'm sure there was an offer and HBO sure wanted the fight. But Joe wanted no part of the fight and since he could make more money fight Evander Holyfield or Michael Nunn or some **** he found his excuse not to make the fight.
dawson was trying to get on joes radar before he bounced. dawson is still trying to get on hopkins radar before he bounces.
There wasnt one I guess. Boy there's no out smarting you. I'm just one of the millions who try to tarnish the great name and resume of the greatest fighter that ever lived Joey "8 Ball" Calzaghe.
He could have fought Johnson in 2004 for the IBF Light Heavyweight title, but sustained a back injury and pulled out of negotiations. He could have fought Pavlik Ring Middleweight champion at a catchweight in 2008, but fought RJJ instead. Hopkins called for a rematch with Calzaghe after Hopkins beat Pavlik, Calzaghe chose to retire. He could have fought Froch in 2009 for the WBC Super Middleweight title, but retired instead. Im not saying Calzaghe ducked them, im saying Calzaghe chose other options which were less risky and that would aid him to stay undefeated.
Who did Calzaghe duck??????????? Ottke wouldnt fight him, Hopkins who started his career as a LHW changed his price, Jones was in the division above and had moved up to HW before Calzaghe even beat Mitchell. If you think he ducked Johnson after pulling out injured 3 times, he did the same with Sheika, Calzaghe had a history of injuries he pulled out before fighting Lacy, but if you still think he ducked G Johnson consider he beat Sheika who beat Johnson, how many losses did Johnson have? And when Calzaghe was ringside with an interest of meeting Johnson, Johnson lost a decision to Woods, so ducked, I dont think really think so. Dawson - If Calzaghe had of met him Dawson would have been a green nobody, but think Dawson nearly got beaten and KOd by Johnson in his 1st fight with him, and Johnson was how old with how many losses, and losses to who? Calzaghe retired when past his best after winning all the belts at SMW & beating Ring LHW champ and #1 LHW Hopkins then made one defence against a Ring top 10 rated fighter from his era to clear up arguements, same as when Lewis beat a faded Tyson
its not about who, its Calzaghe actively avoided ANY tough SMW fight at all until the last fight of his career. why? In the very words of joe calzaghe 'I don't want tough fights'. Which basically means he doesn't want tough fights. SO he didn't pick any fight he thought might be tough, to paraphrase the man himself. If you aren't picking tough fights then you are picking weak-middling fights. This is by definition what Joe said from his own mouth. anyone who disagrees with this is disagreeing with joe calzaghe himself, so to anyone stupid enough to try - good luck with proving yourself wrong.
