I'm just trying to figure out how he was hyped so much. His best wins were over Scott Pemberton and Robin Reid... who are pretty much no names. Help me out here...

Robin Reid was an ex world champ and very good fighter in his day but was shot by the time Lacy fought him. Lacy had respectable wins over Pemeberton, Sheika and Reid but spectacular wins.

You'd have to ask the american journos. Havent a clue. He didnt do to well at the olympics either. Think at the time the journos were just desperate for a new hero, I remember reading about how he was going to go all the way to heavyweight aswell!.

At the time, a lot of his wins looked better than they do now. He fought a lot of guys who were on the way down, but at the time he fought them, most people didn't quite realize how far they had fallen.

The 168 division was weak at that time. He was undefeated and you know how people drool over undefeated fighters. He beat a decent amount of the guys at 168 and it was getting cleared out with him and Calzaghe being the top guys. Kessler wasnt as well known in america at the time. Lacy was knocking out many of the top guys at 168 and US fans were not as familiar with Calzaghe and his wins at the time were not as good as Lacys at the time.

Thanks, I thought Reid was more of a scrub than he was I guess. But, do you mean "respectable but NOT spectacular?"

Im not going to dive straight in here and argue, but Robin Reid was an excellent fighter in his prime, wbc champion and would easily mix it with the top boys in the division now. Admittidly you wouldnt have heard much of him because he was a Uk fighter in the same way as you didnt know much of Calzaghe in the early days.

It wasnt so much Lacy's opponents but in the manner in which he was winning, very quick brutal knockouts. His crowd pleasing style was what made people hype him up, and to be honest it wasnt hard to see why.

Good point, Brick. The fact that he was KO'ing opponents quickly also added to his appeal.

The decent fighters he beat were Grant, Wiggins, Vanderpool, Sheika, Williams. Pemberton and Reid were old, but they are names. Tsypko and Mendoza were tough guys also. The names he beat are vanilla, but nonetheless decent guys. Not everyone can have h.o.f's on their resume. We are talking about 168. You think about who he didn't fight, and there was nobody at the time that he didn't fight. And Lacy is still fighting so...

Lacy is a power puncher who was moved fast, and slid down even faster. He just can't box a lick. He is a slugger who does not throw his punches properly. He has the style that won't last long unless he fights smarter. He is small for a super middle, and too small to go to lightheavy...he might be stuck in between divisions. He is the kind of fighter the elite can't overlook, but a guy that the elite should beat as Cal did...

Hey Dude...Thanks for that KP vs Zuniga fight you got me prob 2 yrs ago!

You are correct about Lacy being a hype job. The guy doesn't know how to throw a straight right hand...he loops the hell out it!
But the reason for the hype was ALL THOSE MUSCLES!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo...I'm ascared to fight Lacy. Look at all those MUSCLES!!!

Yeah, & the minute Calzaghe beats him, JC is immediately in the top 10 P4P!!!??? Go figure. Before that fight, even the Euro fans didn't have such nice things to says about him.
