Who did Lacy ever beat?

I agree. Calzaghe is not a slouch and a good tactician from a technical boxing perspective, but Lacy got next. He is the absolute truth. Real boxing skill, heart, showmanship,speed, stamina, KO POWER, and an improving defense like Bru Sip just said. I expect Lacy to separate Calzaghe's head from his shoulders in the 6th or 7th as well. Is this on Showime or PPV only?

hindsight is a wonderfull thing when it seems now virtually 100% of esb new how this fight would turn out.

Lacy was a very marketable fighter, and even though his opponents were not Elite, the 168 division really had no one in it, and he was winning in a very impressive fashion. Power puncher with a great crowd pleasing style. He was a good looking guy aslo, well spoken, and was carved out of iron, similar to how Tyson had looked in his prime. Prior to the Calzaghe fight he was doing magazine interviews, saying how he wanted to bring the title to America and how patriotic he felt.

And then Calzaghe happened and it all blew up

It's great ain't it. Take a look around here today and you'll see a bucketful of posts saying how they thought JC was going to win against all the odds!! ****ing precious.

 

It was more so the fact that Lacy was a young American fighter who had come from the olympics, gained an IBF title very early into his career and had dominated some of the more "solid" names at the time.

Obviously, since Calzaghe dominated him, those solid names become mud names...but Sheika, Pemberton, Vanderpool, Reid - they aren't guys you beat if you're a bum.

Will be interesting to see how he works against Taylor, knowing it's probably his last chance to do anything post-Calzaghe that will impress.

 

If we remove the Calzaghe fight, no one would take the same swings at Lacy. Yes, he has three poor fights afterwards, but he also received a major shoulder injury against Tsypko. Many other have had poor fights, where it was questionable if they won - ie his next opponent - Taylor.

No he meant spectacular. They were respectable wins in that they were decent names but he did it in destructive style, hence the hype.

I'm not sure what you mean by $6 odds. Lacy was favourite over here but the odds on Joe were not long.

And yes, I won money on Joe that night.

 

Odds when the fight was rescheduled originally were $6 to 1. They only ever got as low as $3 to 1.

 

Vanderpool and Reid were solid wins for Lacy. It's not like he never beat a world class fighter.

 

Which is exactly the same thing they are doing now with Gamboa.
