Miguel Cotto at 147 in 2007-

Fight was just as big as the Hatton fight in terms of popularity-

Margarito and Cotto are the only ones you can make a legitimate argument for.

But that's the thing about ducking. Just because a fight with Floyd doesn't occur, doesn't always make it his fault.

He retired after Hatton and missed the above fights (who, I might add, are/were both with Top Rank hint hint)

He also could have fought Margarito instead of Baldomir, but at the same time, if he fought Zab and didn't fight Baldomir (say what you will, he was the RING champ and should have been undisputed champ), people would have said he was ducking Carlos.

The whole Mayweather is a ducker thing is overrated and silly, really.

2008. cotto beat mosley around nov of 2007 while floyd beat hatton dec of 2007. it's the biggest fight at WW and the whole of boxing back then.

Look at Cotto's record up to 2007, there is nothing there to suggest he would have had a chance against Floyd, and he did well to avoid a fight with Floyd. Cotto did not want the fight. I don't think Floyd's legitimately ducked anyone, there was some talk around 2005-2009 of him ducking the likes of Williams, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, but he beat Mosley after Mosley had emerged as the best of these WW's.

The main talk was of him ducking Pacquaio, however this has been proven to be complete rubbish, it's just very clever PR from the likes of Arum, Top Rank and internet hearsay.

PPl will say Margarito, Cotto, Mosley and Paul Williams.

But TR was not offering Margarito or Cotto to Mayweather unless he re-signed with TR for those fights.

Choosing Marquez over Mosley is the most legit claim.

Not really. Mosley was signed to fight Berto when Floyd came out of retirement against Marquez.

And after the Haiti disaster, and Pac signed to fight Clottey, Floyd fought Mosley straight after.

I love this kind of thread....not because we get anything resolved, but it gives you an opportunity to see who are the objective posters and who are the real boxing fans. Example...People are saying that Mayweather has yet to contact Pacquiao for this May 5 fight. All he has done in Call-out Pacquiao by name and said..."Lets fight." Yet Cotto has never called out FMJ and never claim to want to fight him nor attempted any negotiation...BUT THIS MEANS FMJ DUCKED COTTO. See what I mean.

Floyd said in post fight interview that he wanted to fight Lascano, Freitas and Casamayor. Yet I have never heard or seen any of those fighters claiming to want to fight FMJ...Yet it's FMJ who ducked. See what I mean. Margarito is the only fighter who actually said that he wanted to fight Floyd. The Fighters who FMJ fought instead were Baldomir (Lineal Title holder), Oscar (Biggest PPV fight in History) and Hatton (Another PPV Moner-Maker). Margarito had nothing to offer. But these people still say: FMJ ducked Margarito....SEE WHAT I MEAN.

Nah GB offered Mosley or Marquez to Mayweather and Mayweather choose Marquez as a prelude to a Pac fight. Its was mostly business but still Mosley was considered the tougher challenge.

    Kostya Tszyu

Must of been before the Berto fight was signed, but I'll take your word for it.

    I don't remember it though.

If that's the biggest claim to a Mayweather duck, it's pretty safe to say he hasn't ducked anyone.

I still rate his retirement when Cotto was undefeated and coming off the Mosley win as being the biggest argument.

Not necessarily a duck though. Cotto was an Arum/Top Rank fighter (making it near impossible to begin with), and may not have wanted the fight at all. We'll never know.

But whenever a potential fight that involves Floyd doesn't happen, it seems to be Floyd's fault.

Fight was never on the table.

Tszyu was injured for 22 months, and lost all his titles but the IBF, and had to make a defence against the interim champ Mitchell when he returned.

And then fought Hatton next, and lost.

Plus he was a showtime fighter.

There are five high caliber Welterweights in the last 5 to 10 years Margarito, Cotto, Mayweather, Mosley and Pac. The only one Floyd faced was an older version of Mosley.

This is just a fact. People can try to spin that Baldomir was the legitimate champ, but that is a joke.
