Who did Mayweather legitimately duck from 2000-now(sans Pacquiao)

I suppose any potential fight with Floyd that doesn't happen is Floyd's fault.

Even when a large number of those fighters are with Arum/Top Rank.

The biggest argument is Cotto, when Floyd retired after Hatton when Cotto had just beaten Mosley and was undefeated. Was the retirement justified after so many decades in the fight game, starting at age 5? Perhaps not, but fair enough really.

All other potential "ducks" are just people trying to look for ways to downgrade Floyd and make him seem like the "bad guy".

 

I'll just throw it out there incase it hasn't been mentioned that Mayweather actually negotiated a fight with Winky Wright after he beat Gatti. Fight died when Floyd demanded a rehydration clause so Winky couldn't weigh more than 160 the day of the fight. Floyd instead fought Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah. Don't hate, I just stated facts.

 

Is that a duck though?

Floyd was 140, starting at 130.

Winky was a career 154 pounder.

Simply mentioning potential fights that don't happen isn't a duck.

Floyd-Winky is similar to Floyd-Martinez. A huge risk and huge respect to Floyd if it took place (at the proper weights), but hardly a duck if it doesn't happen.

 

I have a hard time accepting that Floyd didn't avoid Mosley and Odlh. Yeah he did eventuAlly fight them but by then wat was the point.

When was he supposed to fight Dela Hoya? Think of the weigh differences.

And Hoya was still a champion coming of an impressive performance.

And let's not get into Mosley. Both sides had their reasons for the fight not happening earlier.

Remember the documented interview regarding the "tooth ache" lol in 2006?

And when they did fight, Mosley was the RING champ at WW and the next best fight in boxing outside of Pac-Floyd.

So I don't count these too. Personally.

 

Little bit different. Floyd moved up to 147 anyway, and fought DLH at the 154 weight soon after for Winky's vacated title. If they hadn't negotiated, of course, no duck, no brainer. But they actually did try to make the fight and what killed it was that rehydration clause. The fights he took instead were bad in comparison. Could be classified as a duck

 

Neither Shane nor Oscar wanted Floyd until he became a viable draw....Shane especially because Floyd was so much a superior fighter.

 

It's not ducking to not fight a guy much larger than you....Boxing is a business. Risk/reward is weighed heavily which is why match makers are so important.

 

I think our timing of when those negotiations occurred differ.

If he fought Mitchell after the negotiations, he was still a 140 pound fighter.

 

Thats actually not true. Though he may have asked for a rehydration clause or not. That isn't the reason the fight broke down. The fight broke down because they agreed to 50/50 then when Wrights manager met up with Bob Arum to put the final touches on the contract. Arum said that they wanted wanted a bigger purse split of like 52/48 or 54/46 something like that. Wrights manager said that's not what we agreed to at first. Why are you changing the purse split. Wright's manager also said that he believes Mayweather really wanted to fight Winky but Arum didn't like the fight for Mayweather.

For Arum they felt that Mayweather was the one taking the risk going up in weight with his undefeated record to face Winky so they deserved the higher purse.

For Winky they felt they were the ones taking the risk to his image since they were fighting a smaller opponent and nobody would give him credit if he won. In the end neither side agreed to a purse split and they went there separate ways feeling there was no real demand for the fight anyway so why force it.

 

Exactly, but apparently Mayweather ducked Clottey.atsch

 

People can say Mayweather ducked this guy and that guy this that and the third. But at the end of the day there aren't many jr lightweights in the history of boxing that would be able to move up in weight and defeat a jmw champ.
