He lost to Liles in the amateurs and was one of the reasons why Jones ducked him in the professional ranks. Liles and his team genuinely believed they had the beating of Roy. Unfortunately it's just another one of those great fights that Roy denied the public of seeing.

Roy said he was open to fighting Gerald, but only if he could get a favourable deal with Don King.

Roy and Frankie had 3 fights, with Roy beating him twice, including a box-off for a final place at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

    No, he didn't fight Jackson.

The notable names he lost to, were:

    Gerald McClellan
    Frankie Liles
    Tim Littles

I don't think he fought Lamar Parks.

    This is just nonsense.

I've no respect for it at all.

Around 2 months ago, we debated Roy's career. I gave you a huge number of links to look through. But you never replied. And now here you are typing out the same things as before.

Roy did not duck Frankie Liles.

Roy beat Frankie Liles 2 out of 3 fights in the amateurs.

Yes, Frankie's ex trainer - Jack O'Halloran, firmly believed that Frankie would have beaten Roy. Which is why he was so pi$$ed that Frankie blew the opportunity by asking for more money.

The 160-168 lb. era was loaded in talent in the early to mid 90s, but Don King's insistence on future options probably prevented a lot of great matchups from taking place.

I think he's still alive. He was scheduled to fight G-Man but had to retire due to HIV

The story about Parks and his girlfriend is really ****ed up.

Thanks for uploading that great interview.

John seems to be a great guy. Very honest.

Here's another great one that you may have read before where he elaborates more on his first encounter with Roy, and Roy's road to the 1988 Olympics in Seoul:

Yeah, that's a sad story, what a banger Parks was, he had the potential to be a Golovkin type. McCllelan - Parks was going to be a war.

Like to have seen Benn-Jones for $50Mill split 50/50 which DK offered in '95. Though Benn was probably too shot post-McClellan to be competitive other than awkward to nail with his exaggerant ducking, bobbing and weaving.

Manny Steward had a tape of McClellan-Jones at the '88 Golden Gloves and said it was better than Hagler-Hearns. I wander if that tape can be recovered!?

Roy lost to (the ones I know) Louis Callahan. Nick Reed, Taurus Hughes, Andy Liebling, Gerald McClellan, Frankie Liles (1 X) and Park Si Hun...
