What he was good at was getting away with holding, holding and hitting, wrestling, and other rough tactics... except for when he fought Roy Jones Jr. Had the ref let him do his usual thing would things have been different? He had heart and kept his cool pretty well. He seemed to fall in shlt often but usually came up smelling like roses. He really got knocked around the ring in all 3 fights with Holyfield but managed not to get a KD scored against him and went 1-1-1 vs. the future Hall of Famer. He got a DQ win over Kirk Johnson who seemed the better fighter. Rahman took Ruiz lightly and lost by decision. He managed to stop Fres Oquendo after a major struggled against him. He was dropped twice and got a gift vs. Golota. He was outboxed by Toney but the fight was changed to a NC due to Toney's positive drug test...

by this time he actually started growing on some people. He lost to Valuev (MD) and Chagaev (SD) in Germany but gave them both a struggle. He went on to clearly beat McCline by decision before loing another close decision to Valuev. A past prime Ruiz was stopped in 9 by Haye and to Ruiz' credit he has not fought since. He is actually eligible for Hall of Fame consideration next year.

I always wanted Lewis to KTFO of Ruiz but that fight never happened.

Ruiz actually knocked Holyfield down with a legit right hand in their second match.

Don Riley of the St. Paul Pioneer press once wrote that Scott LeDoux went farther with less then any fighter he had ever covered. LeDoux was not pleased.

Frank Bruno...limited natural boxing ability..but a great work ethic and honest endeavour to learn.Stuck at it when many would have quit...and won a version of the world title.

Tyrell Biggs....teenage basketball star for west philly...and far too nice a guy to ever enter pro boxing..became an olympic gold medal winner..went 15-0 as a pro beating Tillis Simm (ranked 7) Bey (ranked 6) Snipes (ranked 9) ...then going 7 rounds with Tyson at a point where Mike was at his ultimate.
Not bad for a guy with zero natural agression no natural power and limited stamina...had a great jab and bucket loads of courage...but should never have been a pro boxer God bless him...and I'm a fan !
