To give any one of you the slightest bit of confidence that he would have a shot against a Prime Ali? Muhammad Ali was pretty much unbeatable in his Prime. He lost a 15 round war to Frazier, but that was after his 3 year layoff and returned to beat Frazier twice after that. Tyson is a mental midget and would have been beaten before the fight even started by Ali. Just like the tomatoe Cans they fed Tyson in his prime were completely psyched out and beaten before he even threw his first punch, he would be against Ali. Prime Tyson wasn't as good as a Prime Frazier or Prime Foreman. I don't even think he was as good as Liston. So who did he beat in his prime that was anywhere near Ali's caliber?
If there was anyone near Ali's calibre then he would've gotten more attention than Tyson, but guys like that don't appear every year you know.
Another major victory Tyson has had was Tyrell Biggs, Tyrell was in his prime and undefeated at the time, not to forget that he was also an Olympic Gold Medalist with serious skills and handspeed/movement. Tyson doesn't get any credit for it because of what happened to Tyrell AFTER that fight, drugs and losing to Lewis..etc, in reality Tyrell trained 100% for Tyson and was actually doing great early in the fight till Tyson broke him down with his own speed/movement/stamina and massive power.
Do you think a Prime Tyson would have beaten a Prime Ali. And if so; how and why? Ali fought guys on Tysons level and beat them. Frazier fought guys on Tysons level and beat them. Foreman fought guys on Tysons level and beat them. You see? Tyson can not be compared fairly to these guys because his opposition sucks compared to them. He got his ass kicked by Buster Douglas for crying out loud. Not caught by a lucky punch but out fought and beat up, and don't give me **** about him being out of shape because he was still going strong late in the fight and was getting raped from round 1 on.
No I don't think that a prime Tyson would've beaten prime Ali but I do believe that it would've been competitive while it lasts. About the Douglas loss, yes I do believe that Tyson was out of shape and his performance was bull**** from start to end and he lasted as long as he did because of his physical strength and ability to take a punch. However, compare his performance that night with many before it and you'll get the picture, if you don't then it's your problem and I'd rather not discuss it(done over 1 million times and got sick of it). The proof is out there for anyone that wants to look deep into it.
Ali was even with Liston?, give me a break. Ali beat the **** out of Liston and the only round Liston looks competitive was when he cheated with the powder he shoved in Ali's eye to blur his vision.
I agree, another underrated win. Tucker as well, Bonecrusher Smith, Spinks, Bruno, Ruddock, Tubbs, Berbick and others. All those are very good wins in my opinion but they're not considered anything because of how Tyson made most opponents look in there and instead of getting credit for it, his opponents are called bums.
I agree but it was a good win and no one has come close to doing anything like that to Holmes all his career.
Tyson fought little but total chumps on his title run. I'll give you Holmes (though old), Tucker, Ruddock and Sammy Scaff........apart from that it was chump after chump including a blown up and petrified Spinks.
Agreed because of the ease in which he beat his opponents, they are labeled as bum because they failed to give the then best fighter in the world a worthy challenge. But what needs to be taken into account the ease and the age at which Tyson beat these guys. Now if you take Mike out of that time line what would the heavy weight picture have looked like , who would have been considered the best ? Spinks , Holems , Tucker , Berbick, biggs, bruno, Rudduck , lets remember these where the best of the best at the time and Tyson totally cleaned out the devision before the age of 24 .. so who did tyson beat ? everyone ...
Ali may have had his ass knocked out if not for Dundee tearing his glove and buying him time. Edit: Oh, and Mike Tyson threw a better left hook than that guy.
