Who did you feel could beat Roy Jones in his prime before you saw him get KOed?

Excluding guys I've never seen footage of.

160: Hagler, Monzon(both are about 50/50 with the greener Jones, both very capable of beating him, Monzon more likely due to his timing)

168: No

175: Foster, Charles, Spinks, Patterson

 

I agree Jones was world class as at 60, maybe 68, never at 75.

 

Jones was better at 168 than at 160, and beating everyone at 175 with ease aside from one guy(DM) makes you world class I'd say.

Why do you people insist on discussing boxing when you clearly know nothing about it? Seriously, what case do you have for Jones not being "world class" at 175? World class means you're capable of fighting at a world level, against top notch opposition.

 

James Toney was the guy most felt ( including Hopkins who had fought Jones) that would give trouble to Roy... Toney had made comebacks from behind to win by kayo ( Nunn, Littles, Prince Williams), to turn it around and win by points ( McCallum, Johnson) and basically he had the experience and the tools to beat Jones who was 26-0, 23 KOs and had a right arm injury... Of course, Jones was too unorthodox, quick on his feet and fast with his leading hook and doubles, good ring generalship but that doesn't take anything out of my idea that Toney could have written a different story if he just didn't walk right in, maybe if he could have fought a more defensive fight and counter-shot Jones.

 

So basically you'd have chosen Toney if they didn't already fight and Jones completely disproved you?

Basically I feel that the Toney-Jones and Hopkins-Jones rematches would have been different and Jones never proved in his fight against Ruiz that he would have been beaten by Tarver ( and he was 0-3 in my opinion). So there's nothing to disprove me or to disprove James other than that Toney could never come down in weight to do it again. The thread was about a non-fictional fighter ( no Mayweathers, no Pernells, no imaginary MWs, SMWs and LHWTs from other eras) who could have beaten Jones before he got kayoed... And I have Toney above Benn, McLelland and Hopkins in my list, that's all there is to it.

 

Between 1990 and 1992 Chris Eubank, but I would not say RJJ was in his prime at this time.

 

I am a big Nigel Benn fan but RJJ was to slick and skill full for Benn. RJJ in his prime would have avoided Benns sickening power and landed his own punches with ease.

 

Foster, Spinks, Walcott, Charles. Moore, Tunney, Patterson and many more would have knocked Glass Jaw Roy Jones out cold. And that is just at Light Heavyweight. Hearns, Hagler, etc. would have knocked him out at Middleweight or Super Middleweight. Jones had a terrible chin.
