Who did you feel could beat Roy Jones in his prime before you saw him get KOed?

If Jones had a "glass jaw", then by your standards, so did Hearns, Foster, Spinks, Walcott, Charles, Moore, and Patterson.

All of whom have been KO'd. What makes you think Jones's chin was so weak? He was KO'd twice by perfect shots when he was well past his prime. Guys from the above list were KO'd badly during their prime(most of them anyway).

    let's see:

Walcott was KOed by Rocky Marciano - Huge Puncher
Patterson - Johannesson and Liston - Both Huge punchers
Moore - Marciano - Huge Puncher
Spinks - Mike Tyson - Huge puncher

    let's look at Roy now:

Tarver - Average puncher who brutally KOed Roy
Glen Johnson - no power at all and knocked Roy out for almost 8 minutes.

Let's see what is worse getting KOed like those guys did or Roy getting iced by two average/below average punchers?

    LOL

    Tarver is an excellent puncher.

Walcott was also KO'd by - Al Ettore & Tiger Fox - not "massive punchers".

EDIT: Fox could bang a bit actually.

would Roy have been able to take Marciano's, Liston's, Tyson's etc. punches? No way. He moved up to Heavyweight and fought a handpicked paper beltholder who at the time had not had a KO since 1998 in Ruiz. The people I mentioned not only fought at Light Heavyweight but moved up to Heavyweight to fight for the legit title and some of them even stayed there instead of handpicking people and moving back down.

I'd give Bob Foster a serious shot, the same with Michael Spinks.. Spinks was a crazy LHW, I can't see anybody beating him at that weight to be serious.

Others that I would have at least 50/50 with RJJ is:

    Michael Moorer (CRAZY POWER!)
Archie Moore (He could blast Roy out aswell)

The fact remains that it was against a clearly past prime Roy. In his prime he was never even hurt, aside from getting caught by Del Valle at LHW, only to dominate for the rest of the fight.

He took plenty more flush shots than people give him credit for as well. In fact, he took Toney's best punch in their fight that I just re-watched(a turn-around left hook) square on the chin and didn't flinch.

Jones did not have a terrible chin at all. In his prime, he took shots on the regular like the ones he took from Johnson. The Tarver shot was enough to floor anyone, as it landed with full force directly on the chin.

Bottom line, you're basing Jones's KO losses on fights when he was past his prime, and just assuming that everyone he faced who could punch would land that big KO punch on a prime Jones, including a guy like Hearns who was naturally smaller and had a questionable chin himself.

I agree with a few of your picks, but your overall attitude toward Jones is ridiculous. Also, Walcott was a Heavyweight through and through at his best.

They were also naturally bigger than Roy, who started his career at 154 pounds. And the Heavyweight division in Charles/Moore/Walcott's day was nowhere near as big as it is now.

Noone's saying he would've been able to take Liston's punches, nor is anyone saying he had a better chin than those guys, we're saying you underestimate Jones vastly.

also add Moorer he would have knocked out Jones at Light Heavyweight also. I forgot about him. Moorer only had chin problems at Heavyweight.

IN HIS PRIME, IF YOU PUT ANY FIGHTER IN AGAINST HIM, I CAN PROMISE YOU HE WOULD START FAVOURITE AND THATs FROM ANY ERA.

No way - but neither do the guys you mention, and he's a smaller man than the guys you are comparing him to, to be fair. I think that Ruiz clipped him at least one proper blow and Jones took it.

I'm not a Jones apologist, I consider his chin suspect at 175, and some of your picks are reasonable, but your appraisal of Jones' chin is not.

Only had chin problems at Heavyweight? Kinda hard to have your chin tested against the level of comp he faced at LHW.

And are we talking about the same Moorer who had trouble with Leslie Stewart, a mediocre boxer who gave him trouble due to his pure boxing skills? Moorer had great power at the weight, but his versatility would be his downfall against any top notch fighter at the weight.

Well not at my bookies sunshine.

Fitzsimmons and Langford would be around even money at any weight.

Hagler and Monzon would be slender favourites over him at MW. Burley and Robinson would be close to even money.

Moore, Spinks and Foster would be slender favourites at 175 and guys like Tunney and Patterson would be around even money.

Then you have guys like Kid Norfolk and Harry Greb who are stylistic NIGHTMARES for Jones but have to be wildcarded through lack of footage.

A lot of Middleweights from the Top15 would beat him, imo.

At 168, I think he beats everyone.

At 175, he is beaten by several men of my Top10.

At Heavyweight, he can be beaten by a lot of fighters.

I agree, and Jones would rightly be the favourite.

Jones would hurt Benn.....But Benn was at his most dangerous when hurt! Which would make Benn winning a real possibility - but ofcourse Jones would be favourite.
