What about the Montell Griffin from the first fight against Jones?

I didn't feel anyone could beat RJJ. If that was a correct and sound assumption is an entirely different thing.

In his prime - I thought he was invincible.

As Joe Frazier said: "I can only fight the fighters of my time". We don't have Foster, Moorer, Archie, Spinks, etc fighting at this time for Roy to fight.

I rate Roy a "great" due to his potential, and what he looked like in the ring on his best nights....and compare that to available fight films and to discussions with boxing professionals here in Texas.

Ali in 1967, most people would say he was an all-time great...though he
had only beaten one truly great (Liston) and a top 15 fighter in Patterson.

Ali went on to beat other greats in his second career when he came back.

Sure, he gaves Jones problems, but he couldnt keep it up for the full fight, which is why he got KO'd

I had Jones winning by 2 at the time of round 9, 5 for Jones, 3 for Griffin, plus an extra point for the Knockdown in the 3rd (i think) which was never even given:huh

List for me all the times Bob Foster, Archie Moore, and Micheal Spinks, were KO'ed (by a light heavyweight) after they were out of their prime? Easy answer never, and look how old Moore was as Lt Heavy champion. I think Jones was a great middle weight, top ten. But he was at heart a middle. In his prime he was a middle, that is my point here. In his prime he would never fight at 175.

Moore was stopped in his prime at light heavy by charles and bivins may have been stopped by someone else as well at 175 would have to look it up but pretty sure he did, spinks never fought at light heavy out of prime, fair enough with foster though

Unbeatable is a crock of ****.

No one is unbeatable. Just different times and situations allow guys to look unbeatable.

If you're under different circumstances, such as fighting 15-20 times per year, often on short notice, you're gonna have an L here and there.

Ezzard Charles stopped a prime Archie Moore.

Roy didn't do all that much at middleweight. He only had one title defense of the IBF belt, and both Hopkins and Jones were relatively green and improving as fighters when they fought for the vacant belt. Jones beat some decent fighters on the road to the title but it wasn't like he was knocking over contender after contender, a la Liston pre-Patterson or Charles at 175 who never won the title but beat a slew of world class fighters.

I didn't think anybody below heavyweight could beat Jones in his prime. After he beat Ruiz, I thought there was a slim chance he could do the unthinkable and beat Lewis.

True like Tiger Woods RJJ had few guys that rate high all-time as oponents.

Hell RJJ was fight 12-7 guys after his first belt!

He could definitely beat Moore and Moorer.

He lost when past his prime, and shot really, at 175 to Johnson and Tarver. A prime Jones would've disposed of a guy like Tarver the same way he did Virgil Hill, who was a superior fighter to Tarver. Do you not understand that people age?

I'm not saying based on accomplishments he's as good as a guy like Archie Moore, but based on styles, the way I see it, he'd handily beat Moore, and most certainly the overrated Moorer. Just because you can name a few over the entire history of the sport that can beat him at 175, how in the HELL does that not make him world-class? He beat everyone there was to beat in the division aside from DM, how does that not make somebody world class? Do you know thee definition of world class? Or do you know as much about that as you do everything else to do with boxing, which is very little?

Moore was stopped by Charles in his prime. Does that mean he wasn't world class and couldn't compete at the top level?

Jones was KO'd when past his prime you fool, what do you not comprehend about that? I guess Ray Robinson wasn't able to fight at MW and wasn't world class because he lost many times to lesser fighters when past his prime(lesser fighters than even Tarver and Johnson). Is that your rationale?

Look at a fighter's prime performances. And the fact that you consider Jones better at 160 than 168 shows once again your lack of knowledge, as Jones was clearly at his peak skill-wise and ability wise here, and his dominant, one-sided victory over Toney proves this, as well as his overall dominance. I suggest you sign off and learn something before replying.
