C'mon boys, no reason to get your egos stressed about these merely academic matters.

Go t neutral corners & come out not swinging.

Anyway, I voted Hagler, but a great case has been made for Sugar Ray.
What he did was impressive, maximizing his potential & fighting strategy under trying circumstances. I still do not know who deservd the decision though.

I'm not arguing that a case can be made for leonard. what gets me is the way posters such as goyourownway constantly circulate their white lies such as "hagler only pick fights with welterweights and never fought anyone bigger than himself"

Then when he KOs fighters the same size (or a good 5 inches taller, ignorantly blurts out "hagler never fought anyone who was any good"

always citing Duran but somehow always forgets Hearns who was not only taller, but faster, 5 years younger, had outboxed Benitez & Leonard both, making the look like amateurs, and Ko'd Duran N Cuevas

never mind the fact that LEONARD was reduced to a complete sham vs Norris & an equally shot Hector Camacho and never could handle anyone younger than himself, the way Hagler did and only arose to the challege when a potential opponent was using a walking cane

these are the kinds of jerks & palookas contaminating the boards making the same pitch over & over.

They cant handle the fact that there have been better fighters than Ray, who have achieved more than Ray. Observe the way they resort to insults against Norris who did the dirty deed with ease

and if they dont like it, then their man shouldve done more than sit on his ass for 5 yrs, quaking in fear of fighters like Hagler, and and instead of participating in remedial fights vs Lalonde, Hearns, Duran in that order, shouldve grown a pair of balls and fought the man he felt threatened by the most at the time - Micheal Nunn

they shouldve demanded more of the little wimp, instead of defending him and fearing for his life every time he put on a pair of gloves

I fully accept that Leonard has his share of idiot fanboys in the ******* mould, but surely you can't believe that even one of them could be stupid enough to believe that he could ever KO Duran?

Not unless their siblings, are actually their parents.

You mean besides the fact that one was in his prime and the other wasn't? Besides the fact that three years had passed in that time and Duran had been undressed by that overrated, heartless plodder in Wilfred Benitez and an unheralded Kirkland Laing in that time?

And yes, Duran was still competent enough to poke Davey Moore in the eye and beat down a faded Pipino Cuevas.

There's nothing to deny, Elton. You're so used to pulling false quotes out of your arsehole, and you've become so desperate and flustered in this little discussion that you're now attempting to attribute words to me that I never actually posted. You can through my entire post history (I know you've got the time) and you won't find a single post where I claim "Duran was in danger of being knocked out" in his rematch with Ray Leonard.

But do tell me more about how "Ray was actually bigger than Hagler"

Of course it was made, spaz: both guys actually wanted to fight one another. Hagler had made it clear that he didn't want to fight Spinks. A fight where two guys are talking up a fight is undoubtedly going to stoke more interest than a fight where only one guy has any interest.

Whenever the possibility of Spinks was brought up to Hagler, he stated he had to come down two divisions, effectively killing any remote possibility of such a fight taking place. Because even meeting somewhere in the middle was too great a task for a dope who expected fighters from lower weight classes to move up to his division, even when he was calling them out.

Elton's plea for rational thinking.
