Hagler wanted the fight so much he gave all the advantages to Srl. It was a close fight but at any other time with any other conditions Hagler dominates convincingly.

Boxing isn't about diamond encrusted earrings. It is about hurting your opponent.

probably after the humongous favorite got schooled by Norris, my turd twizzling friend!

Leonard, never faced anyone with Terry's speed and by the middle of the first, found hisself bewitched, bothered N bewildered!

    It was no contest.

but Ray has only hisself to blame. instead of cherry picking old farts N clubfighters, he shouldve been sharpening his skills against opponents like Second to Nunn

but he was too timid for that, and easily scared off by the sights of speed, slickness N concussive blows to the head!

unfortunately for him, he no longer had Dundee & mike Trainer to carefully guide his career and accidetnly picked fights with the wrong people who FUKKED him up physically, mentally N spiritually. enough to put himself thru an actual retirement instead of one of those pretend retirements he always put on

    Turd-twizzlers-they're TURD-ilicious!

anybody who says he wasnt cant face reality

Ray wasnt nearly as active as Norris

    compare numbers

zero defences for Leonard at the weight vs 13 for Norris

did u know Norris screwed the huge favorite Leonard while ***** smacking him for 12 one sided rounds?

Why are you still bringing up Terry Norris, Elton? We've already uncovered your real agenda regarding him. Why not just stick to Marvis? Are you not secure enough in your own fandom of that absolute mental midget? You and Marvis can't live vicariously through his whoopin of Leonard forever. :-(

Clearly I'm arguing with a ****** (and not the fun, humorous sort like above.)

Half the voters agree with the "******". Guess we can't all hope to be as enlightened as you. Or as mature in our approach.

what whoopin? only whoopin that was ever dished out was from Norris to Leonard. Don't see why the name of Norris bothers u so much

    twas a fair fight, no?

the weights agreed upon were the same for both fighters. Layoffs not an issue this time. Leonard was the favorite. Leonard lost every round. Leonard was embarrassed. Ray was forced to retire with his tail between his legs by the first young lion he faced. And even though his fans dont like to be reminded, this is proof that Ray was overrated from the beginning JUST LIKE WE SAID!

seriously, what other fighter asked for as many concession as Ray then got fuKKed in the ass by the first live fighter he met?

 even the concession he got from Norris couldnt help him that time

and even tho Ray had the crowd on his side, m'man Terry took the crowd out of it early :yep

    who the hell's "Marvis"?

The Norris fight illustrates perfectly his limitations as a fighter

    He could handle slower fighters

    he couldnt handle faster ones

we've all seen Leonard, that's the problem

magoo, u are too easily impressed by anything Leonard does. he throws a jab, u get impressed. he starts dancing, u get impressed. he punches out Dave Green, u get impressed

Ray did ten times more in the Hagler fight than he did with Benitez and it was the best performance of his career

but then, he did have a dead fighter in front of him

Ray told Micheal J Fox and then everyone else, I CAN BEAT HIM!

said "Mugabi, a puncher outboxed Hagler,, think of how much better I can do it - get me Hagler! Can u get me Hagler? Tell him, I want a fight with Hagler" and suddenly the match was made easy after 5 yrs of putting up obstacles by a fearful SRL thru his atty Mike "sign me up" Trainer

Ray was too fightened to fight the Hagler of old cuz that Hagler was a killer ad Ray was afraid of getting killed

perhaps had he whipped Nunn & Norris, Pryor, Curry, I would change my mind but he is far too short of accomplishments. I need to see more

Yes, because going on record and saying " no way do I stand a chance against the man. He'll kick my ass, " was a sure way to build up a multi million dollar pay day

    - Olympic Gold Medal
    - Wins over at least 4 hall of famers and a few additional titelists and contenders

    - Championed in 4 weight classes..

    Yeah he's short alright :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

now keep your eye on the ball alright?

you keep blaming his eye as the reason for the fight not coming off originally as planned but the truth is Mike Trainer deliberately placed roadblocks in the way then attempted to blame Hagler for not taking the fight under those conditions. Every time a Hagler fight was mentioned, Ray turned the other way

but the moment he saw Hagler's failing reflexes, Sugar actually pressed for the fight and the fight was easily made. the evidence was when he gave himself away with those words "I want Hagler. get me Marvin Hagler"

this means the eye never had any bearing on his decision, especially since he kept fighting till the age of 40.

this is well documented as it is on the tape of the fight itself (Sugar said he was counting on the slowness of Hagler. he said he lost a lot of speed)

that means it all has to do with a lack of speed N reflexes on Hagler's part, knowing he could never take a killer like Hagler in his prime which means his "win" was a farce all along JUST LIKE I SAID!

wantmore proof that it all comes down to reflexes? Look at the Norris fight to see what speed N reflexes destroyed your man! :D

is it any wonder why he ducked Hagler, and Nunn both?

By MICHAEL KATZ, Special to the New York Times

    Published: February 13, 1983

WORCESTER, Mass., Feb. 12— For hours at a time in the days before the fight, Sugar Ray Leonard would confront Pac-Man, a losing one-onone matchup. At the current exchange rate of four to a dollar, he was probably down to his last 100 million quarters. But if he wanted to replenish his supply, he said, he would not think about coming out of retirement to fight Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Not after Friday night. The former welterweight champion will stick to Pac-Man.
Hagler, in Leonard's word, was ''magnificent'' in stopping Tony Sibson in the sixth round. Later, at the victory party, Leonard said to Pat Petronelli, one of Hagler's co-handlers:
''I didn't know he was a boxer, too. Now you understand why I retired. I don't want to mess with him.''

He was never going to take a fight like that or any kind IMMEDIATELY after tearing a retina. And yes it's what drove him out of boxing initially. He could have gone on for years cherry picking paydays or winning fragment titles here and there without having to ascend in weight to fight Hagler, but rather than risk blindness he left the game. Nice try but using the eventuality of the matter of him fighting until forty doesn't change that reality. You talk about him using the Mugabi fight to gauge hagler's demise while completely ignoring the Howard Davis match. Davis was a gatekeeper level opponent and Leonard looked as bad or worse in 1984 against him than Hagler did in 1986 against a universally ranked #1 challenger. As for him fighting until forty, 99% of the boxing world felt he was washed up and rightfully so.. He looked like ****... Here are the irrefutable facts:

    - Leonard was rising in weight.. Not Hagler
    - Leonard was the retired fighter who had only fought once in five years
    - Leonard retired due to a career ending injury
    - Leonard was the one with problems out side the ring
    - Leonard was the one who struggled with a Grade B opponent in his last fight

Marvin may have been old, ringwarn, tired of boxing, whatever..... But Ray was just as washed up if not more so. The fact that he CHOSE to continue while Hagler CHOSE to retire, doesn't say anything about the degree to which one was more shot than the other....

P.S. Stop voting multiple times on my poll using different account names..
