I don't get the hate either. I was never really a fan but certainly not a hater but I've come around to respecting him a lot. He seems very dedicated, willing to fight anyone, puts on good fights, and shows a lot of heart. I was pulling for Garcia but it was kind of sad seeing Khan get KO'ed after he had worked so hard to pull himself to the top after the Prescott defeat.
He's arrogant and an ass, and he doesn't back it up. Very few people can get away with true arrogance and conceit. The people who can do that are the virtuosos who really are unbelievably good. Even these rare types get their haters because of the arrogance and acting like they are better than everyone. But at least these people walk the talk. Khan doesn't do that. He's arrogant, whiny and blaming. He fights the same way he behaves. He's flashy but when you get down to it there is no integrity and no accountability, no depth of skill at all. His chin is weak, he makes Wlad look like iron chin. He has no inside fighting skills and poor defense. If he didn't have clearly above average speed, he likely would have many more loses. And he has now lost two in a row and has been knocked out twice. It's hard to like someone like this. Get some skills to complement the speed and lose the boasting and arrogance and stop making excuses and blaming others for your fighting and what happens in the ring and then we'll talk.
Enjoy the fighter, dislike the persona. He wasn't always like this you know. Before he went global,he was a humble young guy with a very good attitude. Not the first to be changed by fame and fortune and certainly not the last. Hate is a very strong word though. No need for that.Truth is,he's one of the most exciting subjects in the game,as much for his flaws as his abilities.
I dislike his personality more than Mayweather's. Both come across as arrogant, but Mayweather has and probably will continue to back it up in the ring. When Mayweather used to say and still does say he is the best in the world, you can actually believe him, and there's definitely a very solid argument. Then you have Khan, any opportunity he can take (whether he is asked specific questions or not) he brings up the elite of the sport as if he is among them already, and that he can actually beat them. When Khan says something like this, very, very, very few people believe him. I don't mind (not necessarily like) people who are arrogant because they can be. I'm not fond of people at all who are arrogant and have no foundation to back it up. In the ring though, for all his flaws, he's a ****ing entertaining boxer with huge heart. Wants to fight the best, and does fight the best available.
Good points.:deal There's a knack to carrying off arrogance, and Amir has never had it.He was much more appealing when he was coming off as a humble young man with his feet on the ground.Don't blame him for things going to his head, but his dad or someone who has his ear should've pulled him aside and told him to tone it down. You know I think if he came back with an angle like;"I lost the plot a bit and started to believe my own hype.Time to get back to the guy who won the Silver medal",it would go a long long way to getting people back onside. It's easy to knock him,but fame and fortune has turned many young guys into total wankers.
Definitely, I actually became a big fan of him after he returned from his KO loss and turned to Roach, he was humble, knew he had to learn and be patient, his interviews were much better. None of this naming names (I did like how he handled the Bradley situation in terms of interviews though). I usually like when boxers disrespect opponents (to a point) to hype bouts, but he was coming across as bitter when asked about certain boxers, particularly Kell Brook. Khan had just lost to Peterson (not getting in to his attitude after that loss) and he was in the SKY studio as a pundit for Brook's American debut I think. Brook won in good fashion, Khan didn't give one ounce of praise, said he should have done better, etc...like I said, came across as bitter. But yeah, like you said, fame has a funny way of changing people. Khan would be a lot more appealing to the UK crowd (specifically) if he was humble. Throughout history, not many people have gotten the UK crowd behind them by being cocky and arrogant.
I never liked him. I don't hate him though (I don't hate any boxer). He talks like he is an A fighter but is nowhere near one. I wouldn't care if he actually backed up his talk in the ring.
A boxer acting arrogant and like he's the best thing out there, who'd of thunk it?! atsch obviously he wants to make a name for himself and get the bigger fights and paychecks Khan gets painted to be way more of an arsehole than he really is, yeah he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and comes out with some stupid **** sometimes but he's not a bad guy at all. Gets a lot of hate cos he's a young successful Asian making dough and banging fine bitches. If he was black or white ppl would love him
I have never liked him. I have always thought he was over rated, but he speaks as if he is an established, elite fighter. I only watch him to see him get ktfo. He is elite at that. Go back to England mf.
These people saying he wasnt always arrogant...check out any interview before or after his first pro fights he wasnt humble at all, the nearest he got was he knew had to learn but still would say im too good for all these im fighting or people suggest i should fight. I remember Graham Earl especially being wound up by how Khan dismissed everyone a British level.
I like him, doesnt talk more or less **** than other boxers. Trashing opponents is part of the game, always has been.
