Who do people make fun of Arturo Gatti ? I mean we all know he is not the best fighter in the world, but i found it astonishing that a man that gave so much of himself in the ring gets so little respect from Boxing fans. I have heard people ridicule him as a punching bag etc, but what more do you want as fans ? the guy entertained you and he would fight through hell to get to the other side, and all people can do is take the rise out of him. Surely you shoud be happy at how far he was willing to push his body, and the entertainment value he brought to the ring. He also fought the best out there too albeit he may have lost, but where is the respect? im sure most will come on and say i respect Gatti, but im sure there are also plenty of you who are guilty of taking the rise out of him too. Im not a huge Gatti fan so dont call me a fanboy, its just i think the guy should get more props for being a warrior, albeit a flawed fighter.
gatti is a warrior,my joint all time favourite fighter,i love the guy, pure heart&passion. every boxing fan should respect him.
I have respect for anyone who steps in the ring. Especially for someone who really loves the game enough to leave it all in the ring despite knowing they will lose. Gatti isn't an ATG, but then again neither is Micky Ward and I think both of them are great fighters in different regards. Hell, Micky is one of my all time favorite fighters even though he never did anything miraculous. Just the fact they keep rising to the bell is enough for me.
Yeah,it's true, people just like to hate I guess. The ''punching bag'' won 2 world titles in 2 weight divisions, challenged for a third one,was in the FOTY in 96,97,98,02 and 03.Show me somebody who had so many great figths.I mean you need only one fight to go down and always be remembered but he had so many great fights and never backed down from a challenge.
Im not a regular at ESB, but when i mention Gatti on other sites all people do is take the rise out of him, because he lost to the better fighters or, because he took too many punches.
Because some *******'s on ESB sometimes expect no less than a perfect fighter and act as if there no room for anything less. Gatti was one of the funnest fighters to watch during my generation.
Yep. I respect Gatti more than i do other more talented fighters for that very reason, he was not as talented as some of his contemporary's, but he still challenged the best and tried his heart out/ left it in the ring, where as some of the more talented fighters of his era were quite the oppostie of that, and i dont respect them as much, because they had more talent and they did not fullfill there talent and fought who they wanted and cautiously too.
He wasn't that talentless anyway, altough his skills went out the drain after a few rounds of catching. Watch the first Patterson figt and you will see he had skills.Much like Chico is thought to be a one-dimensional fighter which he wasn't.
I know i was just gonna mention the 1st Patterson fight, because he boxed excellently against Patterson. Gatti's trouble was when he got hit he would throw down and square himself, but he did have Boxing skills i agree and he was a decent counter puncher.
Who do knows why people make fun of him. i know one thing is for sure ...who dont make fun him. He is one of who favorite fighters.
