I was never a Gatti fan, I always respected him though. I think Gatti gets a lot of recognition. Gatti was never a bad fighter, he had good power, good chin, ton of heart. 2 time beltholder. Glad Thunder is out of the ring.Hope to never see him back in.
The only time I see Gatti consistently trashed is during an argument about Floyd's titles in multiple weight classes. I have seen a whole lot of people trash Gatti in that context.
True. I often see him dismissed as a 'club fighter' in that arguement. I don't think he's a club fighter, the only thing I weigh in with doing that arguement is that the guy was practically shot.
So much heart, most fighters would love to have one war on their resume, Gatti has Ruelas, Robinson and of course Ward. Gatti's technique may not be brilliant but thats what made his fights great. I'd pay to see him ahead of a lot of fighters who are technically better. Anyone who makes fun of Thunder don't know boxing imo.
Actually unofficially it was a 17 pound difference and the problem isn't so much with the weight that he put on it's with the weigh in itself. He jumped on the scale his people said taht the weight was right and he jumped off and immidiatly started drinking water before anyone could even verify the weight. Then he refused to get back on the scale saying that he had already drank water so naturally he would be overweight and threatened to sue when Gamache wanted to pull out.
No it wasn't because nobody said how much weigth did Gamache put on.Did you see what his previous fights were?A lot higher than 141 for sure.Gamache put on a lot of weight himself.
Actually I think Gatti was fairly talented and a bit of an underachiever. He had some decent boxing skills and athleticism, but was known to party too much and not train like he should have. He had drug and alcohol problems which surely did not help.
